This week, the office secured trial convictions in two felony matters through the outstanding work of two of our attorneys.

Deputy Chief Adam Strong obtained guilty verdicts on two counts of resisting an officer and disorderly conduct following a trial that began Monday. APA Andrea Marti also secured convictions against a fourth habitual offender for Domestic Violence – Third Offense, Interference with Electronic Communications, and absconding on bond in a case where the defendant remained a fugitive for more than four years. The matter additionally resulted in new perjury charges after the defendant lied to the jury during trial testimony.

The convictions are the result of dedication and hard work by both attorneys. Although these trials involved only approximately 24 combined hours in the courtroom, they were the result of more than 70 combined hours of preparation. Jury trials require tremendous time, resources, and effort from attorneys, staff, law enforcement, and the court system as a whole. They also require a significant commitment from members of the community who serve as jurors.

Those jurors — and the constitutional right to a trial by jury — are fundamental to our system of justice. We sincerely appreciate the citizens who answered that call and served as jurors this week.

This afternoon Kyron Kelemen's killer was sentenced to life without parole for the tragic and brutal death that Kyron endured. Excellent work by Eaton County Sheriff's Office, Michigan State Police, Eaton County Child Protective Services, and my great staff, on securing some semblance of justice for Kyron.

The gathering highlights the importance of awareness and serves as a powerful reminder that we all share a responsibility to listen, take action, and advocate for victims of crime in our communities.
