Hi Everyone
We are less than a week away from our town elections, and I just wanted to make a few things clear.
First, I am happy to discuss, debate, and address solutions on any topics related to our town. If I wasn't then I would not be running for a seat on our board of selectmen. In fact I have made it a point to seek out discussions with residents, town employees, and officials to address these issues openly. I feel it is important to have these discussions to educate both residents and elected officials on each other's opinions, and find compromises and solutions to these issues.
Also, I believe that anyone currently serving or running for office do the same. It is important as elected officials to hold yourself to the standards and qualities that you say are important. This is integrity and transparency.
I have said at the start of my campaign that more opportunities for residents, elected officials, and candidates to interact are needed. This is important if we want to have more than 10% of our residents participate in our government and get all relavent information into everyone's hands.
I had put together two opportunities, in addition to candidates night, for ALL candidates to have a forum to discuss issues with residents, discuss policies and solutions, and debate issues with their opponents. Less than 10% took advantage of these opportunities, and only half replied to them.
This is not a post calling out those that declined. Rather a question, why? As an elected official we should be available at anytime to our residents, after all we work for them. Why not have formal discussions and debates in the name of integrity and transparency instead of attacking others on social media when convenient? Why not be clear and concise on issues and solutions instead of critiquing others answers without facts or rebuttals?
I expect our elected officials to hold these qualities, and so I will hold myself to the same standards.
What are everyone's thoughts as residents of Charlton?
I thank those that supported these efforts and offered forums like Charlton Happenings, Charlton TV, and charlton ma area public forum.
