Bellevue Fire Dept
Founded in 1948 Bellevue Fire Company began just after the end of WWII in 1947. Several groups had attempted to start a fire company in the previous years, but failed.
(16)
On one attempt, the treasurer stole the money and moved to Ohio to live. Another attempt saw the six hundred dollars of the treasury lost when the Bank of Depew failed due to poor management. At that time, the only fire protection was if a fire broke out, a call was made to a neighboring fire commissioner. A fee of about $35.00 was required but no guarantee there would be an answer to the call. It was a fire on Bellevue Blvd that prompted another attempt. The fire was extinguished by throwing shovels of snow on it and right then it was decided to start a fire company. They agreed to meet that very night and neighbors were called to attend. Unfortunately only seven people showed up for the meeting. Lack of attendance was caused by either poor communication or the feeling it would fail again. Needless to say the group was pretty disgusted. The group had little knowledge of how to start a fire company, but after many glasses of refreshments and many arguments on how to organize, the group set out to do so anyway and in 1962 the fire company became the Bellevue Fire District #9 and five members were appointed fire commissioners and then elected for their appropriate terms. Since that time Bellevue Fire District #9 has been serving and protecting the citizens of their district with honor and pride.
Mission: To provide Emergency Medical Service, and Fire Suppression Service to the residents & visitors to the Bellevue fire dist.

Awesome job CPD! What a great community to be a part of.
"I gotcha, I gotcha," Patrolman James Rutkowski can be heard saying on body camera footage of the rescue, as he approached the howling boxer.

Help us help you!
When seconds count, a fire hydrant free and clear of snow could mean a timely difference when it comes to protecting life and property. Please consider adopting a local hydrant on your street, and committ to keeping it clear of snow for the winter months. Do your part so we can do ours! Thank you!
CPD spotted Santa! Go to bed you kids, and Merry Christmas.

Earl Loder
Disaster Coordinator of the Town of Cheektowaga
1932-2020
It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Earl Loder. The enormous amount of sympathy we wish to extend to the family of Earl will not even come close to the legacy he leaves behind.
Earl Loder was appointed the Disaster Coordinator of the Town of Cheektowaga in 1981 and served this position with distinction for the next 39 years. After asssisting his community as a Volunteer Firefighter, Volunteer Fire Chief and Fire Commissioner he took on the task of developing a new position to help serve the public during hazardous materials spills, winter storms, tornados, train derailments, floods, and many other emergencies. He was well known throughout Western New York and the State as one of the leading authorities in Emergency Management. Loved by some and respected by many, he will be missed for his commitment to keeping the Town of Cheektowaga “Always Ready.”
Looks like a bit of snow is in the forecast for Christmas. Get your shovels ready. We’ll be ready to go on our end!

Inspired from the tragic fatal accident in Wolcottsville, these tags are emergency info for paramedics in the event mom and dad aren’t able to communicate.
It’s a luggage tag and a sticker- nothing fancy. About $7 from Amazon. Fill out the info inside and zip tie to the car seat. If you think this is good idea please share with any friends or family with young kids. Never know who it may help down the road (Credit: Mike Dorse-NFFD)

Effective November 1, the NY State Vehicle and Traffic Law has been amended to require that all back seat passengers in a motor vehicle, including those that are 16 years of age or older, be restrained by a safety belt.
In the event of a crash, a rear passenger without a seat belt on can injure or kill the front occupant as they can be pushed all the way into the steering wheel or dashboard.
Stay safe and buckle up!
