In case this helps any families who were left in a tight spot due to the cancellation of our camp.
It is with a very heavy heart that I am sending this message. A decision has been made by the Town to cancel Day Camp for the 2020 season. I am extremely sorry for the disappointment and failure to provide for your children.
I am truly heartbroken and we will miss everyone very much this summer. Please express our apologies to your children.
Thank you for having confidence in our program and I hope to see everyone next summer.
All registrations will be withdrawn and for those who have made deposits or payments those will be refunded.
Stay well and safe,
Day Camp Director
UPDATE: We have been notified that Camp Dartwood will be cancelled for Summer 2020 and Day Camp will be held only at Alexander.
Also, at this time all registration for Alexander Day Camps is closed.
As stated previously, if you have already registered for Alexander you are all set.
At this time we are being told that day camp will be able to run. There will, of course be changes, one of which is we will be accepting about half the numbers of campers as usual in order to accommodate for regulations due to COVID-19. Other changes will be communicated as we have more specific information.
Please note: As of 5/21/20 we are no longer accepting registrations at Camp Alexander for Youth In Training or boys grade 5 and up (A5 & A6). If you have already registered, you are all set.
Contact us at [email protected] with any questions.
We thank you for your continued patience and support throughout this time of unknown certainty. We had hoped to get an update out to everyone sooner than now, however, there was not much to update as we waited for information about reopening and how we might do that.
Now with New York PAUSE extended and the decision to open businesses moves to a regional level, we continue to await guidance about what phase of reopening day camps fall and more specific health and safety guidelines that are required due to the pandemic. We are continuing to hold out hope to be able to hold day camp, but we also realize this is dependent on state and local governmental decisions.
We know that this doesn't answer any questions specifically enough, but that is all we have at this point .
We hope you and your families continue to remain safe and healthy!
Day Camp families and staff - In regards to having/not-having Summer Day Camp,
Please know at this time nothing official has been communicated with us or decided specific to day camp. As of right now we are continuing to process registrations. At such time any official decisions are made ALL camp families and staff will receive communication directly from the Camp Director.
Be safe and thank you!
We are still operating under the premise that we will be able to have Day Camp.

(Please note, we cannot guarantee approximate times/streets that the bunny will visit, but we will make every effort to drive through as many streets as possible on 4/9/20. Hello families! With schools closed right now, I would like to offer virtual tutoring to help keep kids engaged and focused on school work in a fun, educational, and interactive way. My experience includes being an occupational therapy student in grad school, an activity director and counselor for 8 years at Alexander day camp, after school program coordinator at the YMCA, and substitute teacher at Maryvale. If you are interested please email me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you!
At this time the April Break program scheduled for the week of April 13th is cancelled.
Please join us for a fun night to support the Adapted Recreation Program! We have already received many great baskets and donations for the basket auction. Tickets are available for presale. Contact us for tickets.
Still accepting registrations for February Break Club. February 18th-21st. Contact us for information.

Plan ahead - New for 2020 Camp/Adapted Recreation Program staff will be running the February Break week club and the Spring Break week club for ages 5-12. The program will be fully integrated as well and be held at the Alexander Community Center. Space will be limited, so look for more information after the new year!
Shared from a parent with permission: “Today was the last day of camp for the summer. When I picked them up, there was lots of teens, counselors, and children crying. All so sad to leave camp. (Child) looked at me and said, “mom, I cried during the slideshow, I’m going to miss my friends so much.” Every counselor and kid hugging and asking, “you coming back next summer??” It was such a sweet thing to see.
It reminds me how important camp is. To meet new and diverse people, to experience things they usually wouldn’t, to learn to work as a group not just an individual, and to be accepted as you are.
I wish every kid got to experience this and that every mom got to witness it.
Until next summer ☀️”
This is why we do what we do. Thank you so much to all of our campers and families, you are why we do it. Thank you cannot be said enough to my staff who are there because the work means something to them and did an amazing job. As hard as some days seem or when I think “Oh just one more summer”, moments like this remind me how important it is to keep going. Providing these experiences to children and the teachable moments to staff of all ages is why I keep going. This year was the most tears of sadness to say goodbye that I have seen in our last few days of camp. Yes sad to say goodbye but warms my heart because those tears mean relationships were formed that will not be forgotten and fun was had that is immeasurable.
- With gratitude and until next summer. Miss Amy, Camp Director
