Who is Brian Pilarski for Cheektowaga Town Board and what has he done?

Councilman Brian Pilarski has had the honor of serving the Town of Cheektowaga for the past seven years, dedicating his time and leadership to improving the community he proudly calls home. During his tenure, Brian has championed several key initiatives that have left a lasting impact on residents of all ages. Among his proudest accomplishments are helping bring a Boys and Girls Club to Cheektowaga, securing two new internet providers to break up the Spectrum monopoly, and leading the development of the Veterans Memorial Park at K**b Hill.

He also played a pivotal role in bringing Tunnel to Towers to Cheektowaga, transforming the old, long-abandoned senior home on Harlem Road into new veteran housing—a project that exemplifies his commitment to those who served. Additionally, Brian helped organize the Town’s first-ever Veterans Resource Fair at Town Park, connecting veterans and their families to critical resources and support.

Brian currently serves as the liaison for Youth and Recreation and Senior Services and is the Chair of the Cheektowaga Veterans Affairs Committee. He is also a proud member of both the AMVETS and American Legion in Sloan and Cheektowaga, continuing his lifelong dedication to supporting veterans and their families.

A U.S. Army veteran, Brian served for six years both as a Noncommissioned Officer and an Officer. He began his military career as a Private First Class and concluded it as a First Lieutenant, commanding a troop of 120 soldiers. His leadership and service earned him recognition as one of Buffalo Business First’s 40 Under 40 in 2017.

Outside of public service, Brian is deeply involved in his community as a Den Leader for a local Cub Scout Pack and as a baseball and softball coach in Cheektowaga’s youth leagues. He is also a graduate of St. Bonaventure University (Class of 2006) and a past President of the Maryvale School Board of Education.

Above all, Brian is a devoted family man — celebrating 15 years of marriage to his wife, Jennifer, and proud father to Grace (14), Gavin (10), and Greer (7). His faith, family, and service to others continue to guide his mission to make Cheektowaga a stronger, more connected community for generations to come.

I am proud to announce that I have received my second unanimous endorsement from another Police Union in my bid for re-election to the Cheektowaga Town Board!

This marks the second time in as many weeks that I’m happy to share that I have earned the full confidence and support of the men and women who serve and protect our Cheektowaga community every day. Last week I announced I was endorsed by the Cheektowaga Police Club and today I get to announce that I am endorsed by the Captains and Lieutenants Association.

I have always stood firmly with our officers in blue—advocating for the resources, training, and respect they deserve. I believe my commitment to public safety, community partnerships, and law enforcement continues to make a real difference in Cheektowaga.

Supporting those who protect us isn’t a political stance—it’s a moral one. I’m honored to have the trust of the brave men and women of both Police Unions here in Cheektowaga, and I will continue working to ensure they have the tools and backing they need to keep our neighborhoods safe.

Councilmembers Diane Benczkowski and Mike Jasinski are pushing a resolution to rescind the apprenticeship requirement for public works projects in Cheektowaga. This policy helped ensure that contractors investing in real workforce development, especially in trades, have a fair shot at winning bids. Removing it opens the door for out-of-town, low-road contractors who don’t prioritize local hiring, training, or safety.

Instead of building a pipeline of skilled labor and supporting our future workforce, this resolution undermines the long-term health of our local economy. It’s short-sighted and ultimately benefits companies looking to cut corners, not communities looking to grow.

Our public dollars should be used to build more than just roads and buildings—they should build careers. This move is a disservice to working families and aspiring tradespeople across the region.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t just bad policy — it’s a slap in the face to every tradesperson who’s gone through the rigors of an apprenticeship, and every local union that’s fought to raise standards in our industry.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the Town of Cheektowaga’s annual War of 1812 ceremony. Your presence not only honored the memory of those who served but also reinforced our communal commitment to preserving our history.

Events such as this play a crucial role in sustaining our collective memory and understanding of the past. They remind us of the sacrifices made by our forebears and the values that have shaped our nation. It is essential that we continue to celebrate and
acknowledge such significant moments, ensuring that future generations appreciate the historical events that have defined our
community.

Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday in the U.S. after President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act-into law on June 17, 2021.

In 2022, The City of Tonawanda, North Tonawanda and The Town of Cheektowaga were the only 3 among the local municipalities not observing Juneteenth, which was a federal holiday.

I was not happy about that. Here was my statement I put out on June 20, 2022 regarding it (https://www.wgrz.com/article/entertainment/events/juneteenth/not-all-wny-municipalities-are-recognizing-juneteenth-as-a-federal-holiday-wny-buffalo/71-0b4d4d24-57b3-423c-bd13-c45d65e9d00c)

Councilman Brian Pilarski issued a statement about his stand on the holiday:

"Government and municipalities like New York State, Erie County, City of Buffalo, and many others such as School Districts have made Juneteenth a paid holiday for employees. I think the Town of Cheektowaga should have also followed suit and observed Juneteenth. The Town of Cheektowaga has some serious work to do with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. It is important to me to live and work in a community that prioritizes diversity and inclusion. I’m not buying that this is something we should have negotiated with our unions during the last contract negotiations. We had since June 2021 when President Biden declared Juneteenth a Federal Holiday to take action. We could have and should have had negotiated a MOU swapping out another paid holiday (Presidents Day, Indigenous Peoples' Day, etc. (pick 1 of the 14)). The Town of Cheektowaga is becoming more diverse every day with a growing African American and Muslim population and we need to do better in recognizing that and diversifying our workforce. So far we are failing."

I am proud to say that last month the Town of Cheektowaga passed a resolution commemorating Juneteenth, a resolution sponsored by me and drafted by my friend Tiffany Lewis.

Today, we raised the Juneteenth Flag in Cheektowaga Town Park to honor black history and celebrate unity.

Cheektowaga is making strides towards the right direction but we as a Town and we as a nation still have a lot of work to do.

Yesterday I had the honor and privilege to attend the annual Cheektowaga Police Department Memorial Service, a solemn and heartfelt tribute to the members of the Cheektowaga Police Club who have passed. It was a powerful reminder to honor not only those we've lost, but all who came before them and paved the way in service to our community.

May we always remember the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve the Town of Cheektowaga. Your courage and dedication will never be forgotten. 💙🚔

I have deep concern regarding the alarming behavior exhibited by an elected official within our community, specifically Councilman Jasinski. It has come to my attention that there have been multiple instances where this individual has threatened physical harm to multiple colleagues. This pattern of intimidation is not only unacceptable but undermines the very principles of leadership and public service.

It is imperative that those in positions of authority conduct themselves with integrity and respect, especially towards their peers. The repeated nature of these threats raises serious questions about the Councilman’s suitability for his role. Such behavior creates a hostile environment, which counters our community's values and diminishes public trust in our elected officials.

I urge the Cheektowaga Community to take a stand against this troubling behavior and promote a culture of safety and respect. We must prioritize the well-being of all individuals within our community and ensure that elected officials are held to the highest standards of conduct.
