Today, we remember and honor the heroes of D-Day.

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history. Their courage, sacrifice, and determination changed the course of World War II and helped secure the freedoms we cherish today.

We will never forget the bravery of those who foughtβ€”and those who gave allβ€”on that pivotal day.

Throwback Thursday πŸ“Έ

Today we’re looking back to a truly unforgettable incident from Chelmsford Police history.

In the early morning hours of April 23, 1955, Officer Edward F. Miner responded to Crystal Lake in North Chelmsford after reports of a vehicle in the water. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Lowell man still seated behind the wheel of his partially submerged car roughly 35 feet from shore.

With several rowboats nearby, Officer Miner climbed into one and paddled out to the vehicle, where the driver was reportedly sitting in chest-deep water. After safely bringing the man back to shore, he was arrested for drunkenness and operating under the influence.

Later that day, the driver pleaded guilty in court and was fined a total of $55 β€” including $50 for operating under the influence and $5 for drunkenness.

Investigators later determined the vehicle had narrowly missed telephone poles, crashed through a fence, traveled over an embankment, and finally came to rest in Crystal Lake.

Thankfully, despite the unusual circumstances, no serious injuries were reported.
