Congratulations to Senior Deputy Carla Rogers on her retirement! Today, Sheriff Jim O'Sullivan presented her with her retirement plaque and credentials. Senior Deputy Rogers has served 15 years with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office, 7 years with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, with a total of 22 years of service in Law Enforcement. Sheriff O'Sullivan, members of his Command Staff, and her family joined together to thank Senior Deputy Rogers for her service and wished her good luck on his new endeavors.

Today, Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan presented our CSO’s Deputy and Civilian of the 4th Quarter with their plaques! Deputy J. O’Neal and Human Resources M. Rose. Thank you both for your continued commitment and dedication to the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office.

WE ARE IN THE COMMUNITY!

On last Friday, Deputy Blake-Marlow and Deputy Belew represented the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office at the Senior Advocate Expo at the Indian River Community Center in Chesapeake, VA. They were able to speak with over 100 seniors about safety tips on how to be alert and safe while out and about on their daily routines.

Then on Saturday, Deputy Blake-Marlow represented us at the Divine Baptist Church for their Community Health Day. Deputy Blake-Marlow was joined with State Trooper Samuel Boone and The Chesapeake Fire Department. They were able to engage with members of the Community as well as pass out public safety tools to the kids!

Over the weekend, ghosts, witches, and superheroes from all over the city stopped by the public safety building at the municipal center for some candy, stickers, and games from Chesapeake firefighters, police officers, and sheriff’s deputies. We would like to thank all of our donors and volunteers for making the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office Halloween Blood Drive very successful. We not only met our goal of 61 pints but surpassed it with 75 pints donated! Our Halloween Blood Drive is just 3 days away! Come give the gift of life on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 9 am – 3 pm. We still need donors!

There will be spooky decorations, Halloween movies, and delicious food donated by Firehouse Subs Crossways Center, Jimmy John’s, Papa John’s, etc. All donors will receive a free t-shirt and a $5 Amazon gift card from the American Red Cross. We will also be raffling off gift cards, cash prizes, and much more!

More important than the prizes, is the opportunity to make a difference. One pint of blood can save up to 3 lives. Come give the gift of life!

Today, CSO recruiter Deputy Blake-Marlow and Deputy Belew attended The Corporate Gray Military-Friendly Job Fair in Virginia Beach. This event is one of the most professional career events in the Hampton Roads area. It provides a unique opportunity for employers to meet with members of the military community - all services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard), all ranks (officer and enlisted), and all occupational specialties. Large companies, smaller firms, and government agencies.

Deputy Blake-Marlow and Deputy Belew spoke with over 50 people collectively and were able to sign up 6 people for our upcoming pre-employment physical ability test.

We are holding a pre-employment physical ability test on Saturday, November 13th – 0800.

The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office is participating in the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back program this Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 10am-2pm. The public is encouraged to drop off any old or unwanted medication/prescriptions at our admin building (401 Albemarle Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23322) and we’ll dispose of it. The nationwide initiative aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

**Please be aware that anyone entering the building will be required to wear a face-covering.

This week, the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office hosted a Service Awards/Progression Ceremony in City Council Chambers. Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan welcomed the crowd Thursday. He thanked the recipients for their dedication and their families for sacrificing time with their loved ones in the name of public safety. Chesapeake Jail Ministries Chaplain J. Cox led the audience in prayer before Master of Ceremonies Major D. Rosado called the names of the recipients. The ceremony recognized advancements, meritorious service, life-saving actions, and years of service.

Chesapeake Sheriff's Office aims for 13th straight Plane Pull title supporting Special Olympics

In just over a week, the CSO’s 12-time defending champion Plane Pull team will take off for the Dulles Plane Pull. It’s a big fundraiser for Special Olympics Virginia. Teams from across the country will compete to see which can pull a FedEx Airbus 12-feet in the fastest time. The CSO has taken home the trophy at the past 12 competitions. Now we’re going for 13!
