The Chesapeake Thrives Show is back with a new episode!
This month, we’re highlighting Behavioral Health with Gaby Sanchez, Regional Outreach Manager with Behavioral Health Group.
Gaby shares how BHG supports individuals experiencing opioid and other substance use disorders through evidence-based care, counseling, and ongoing support. She also helps us better understand addiction, break down the stigma surrounding treatment, and recognize that recovery is possible for everyone.
Tune in to learn more about how we can meet people where they are, remove barriers to care, and help individuals and families find hope and a path forward.

Mental health support can make a meaningful difference in a student’s ability to learn, grow, and thrive.
In this episode of the Chesapeake Thrives Show, we’re joined by Dr. Tiffinee Yancey, CEO of A Virtual Peace of Mind, to discuss the Student Assistance Program (SAP) and its partnership with Chesapeake Public Schools and other school districts.
We’ll explore the mental health needs facing children and adolescents, how families can recognize when a child may need additional support, and how Virtual Peace of Mind is working to reduce stigma and connect students and families with accessible behavioral health resources.
As we head into a new school year, this conversation is an important reminder that support is available, and no family has to navigate these challenges alone.
Watch the episode and learn more about supporting student mental health in our community!

We have plenty of reasons to celebrate National Dog Day today. So far this year, more than 300 dogs have found their forever homes through CHS. But adoption is just one part of what we do to support dogs in our community.

This year, we have also:
🐶 Distributed more than 5,000 pounds of dog food to local families through our Community Pet Pantry
🐶 Performed more than 820 dog spay/neuter surgeries through our low-cost veterinary clinic
🐶 Provided a safe place for 20 dogs through our Crisis Boarding Program
🐶 Had volunteers contribute nearly 1,000 hours walking, playing with, and caring for the dogs in our shelter

And of course, there are still several wonderful dogs waiting for their turn.

So whether you're celebrating your own best friend today, thinking about adding a dog to your family, volunteering your time, or helping us support dogs and their people, there's plenty of ways to make today count.

Happy National Dog Day! Give your dog an extra treat from us. 💙
