Governor's Council on Impaired Driving

Governor's Council on Impaired Driving On September 16, 2011, I signed an Executive Order establishing my Council on Impaired Driving. Sincerely,

Matthew H.

We’re dedicated to ending impaired driving in Wyoming by educating the public about the issues associated with both alcohol and drug impairment, while supporting strategies and programs designed to save lives. Impaired driving has touched thousands of lives reaching every corner of our state. We have taken important steps to curtail impaired driving during the last ten years, but there is more to

do. This year, I signed a new law which makes it more difficult for repeat offenders to avoid prosecution. Efforts to stop impaired driving are also benefiting from advancements such as ignition interlock devices, which prevent impaired drivers from starting their vehicles. I created my council on Impaired Driving to continue the fight against impaired driving and to help prevent impaired driving related deaths. The Governor's Council facilitates research, discussion and planning to reduce impaired driving in Wyoming. The Council is tasked with identifying priority issues, developing prevention strategies and tackling other initiatives to address the problem. I believe this Council is necessary to keep all of our citizens safe. Mead

Nationwide, the 4th of July holiday weekend can be especially dangerous on our roadways. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Administration — 38% of drivers killed were drunk and the highest impairment rates were recorded in the 21-34 age group (47%). You've still got plenty of time to make plans for a safe ride... designate before you celebrate!

Great advice from Cheyenne Police Department — "Good beverages pair best with good planning!" Don't risk it, drive sober.

The Wyoming Brewers Festival is back on tap this weekend, and your Cheyenne Police Department got an early look at the menu. Here is our flight of recommendations:

• "Leave the Keys" Lager – A crisp reminder that if you've been drinking, don't drive.
• “Malt-ernative Transportation” Märzen – A smooth, free, trolley ride home provided by Visit Cheyenne and the Wyoming Brewers Festival.
• “Don't Disappoint Your Dad” Draft – A steady, well-rounded choice that Dad would be proud of this Father’s Day weekend. Save yourself the headache in the morning.
• “High Visibility” Hefeweizen – Crisp and attention-grabbing - just like our extra patrols watching for impaired drivers.

*Brewer’s Note: Good beverages pair best with good planning - catch complimentary trolleys on the west side of Depot Plaza:
• Friday: 8:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

A great night can shift fast when your choices start missing the mark. Staying in control keeps the focus on the moments that actually matter: good company, good energy, and memories you’ll want to keep. Make decisions that help you enjoy the whole game, not just the first inning.

Polyconsumption is when two or more intoxicating substances are consumed together, either intentionally or unintentionally. Essentially, if you drink a beer and smoke a joint, you’re polyconsuming. Combining cannabis and alcohol amplifies the impairing effects, making it even more dangerous to get behind the wheel.

Our advice? Make plans for a sober driver to get you home safely and avoid a DUI.
