Student Government of Loyola Chicago Welcome to the Student Government of Loyola Chicago's page! Like us and stay connected to our events and initiatives. We commit wholeheartedly to voice the concerns of the student body, to act as an instrument for the cooperation of students, faculty, and administration, to provide an open forum for dialogue and a voice for student opinions concerning the traditions, ideas, and affairs of the University, and we shall do so in order to afford all undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in the management of their own affairs.

The next senior spotlight is for our amazing President, Maddie Drescher (she/her). Although an honest and true leader, Maddie cheated when asked about her favorite spot on campus and said all of LUREC.

Maddie's favorite SGLC memory is "sharing collective 'wins' with other members over Damen curly fries and Peace Teas while hanging out in the SGLC office (Damen 210 -- make sure to go visit next year)!!" (We

Our next Senior Spotlight will be for our amazing Board of Trustees student representative, Brady Morris (he/him).

Brady's favorite memories also include retreats/in-service (we all love them) and meeting with other student BoT representatives!

Thank you for representing Loyola so highly, Brady. SGLC wishes you nothing but the best! ❤️🎓

Our next senior spotlight is the lovely, Elaina Richards (she/her), who served as a senator on the Academic Affairs Committee.

When asked about her favorite spot on campus and professor, Elaina said the reading room on the 3rd floor of the IC and Dr. Elise Martel Cohen, Department of Sociology, respectively.

During her time in SGLC, Elaina was able to help integrate communication with ITS into the future of the organization. Her biggest take-away from SGLC was that "any action you take, you might not always see to fruition. But planting the seeds is just as important as reaping the rewards."

In 10 years, Elaina sees herself somehow involved in building climate-resilient infrastructure in the U.S., whether that's as a member of abolitionist and climate movements or simply writing to romanticize train travel (we get it, you like trains).

Thanks for shooting your shot and joining our organization, Elaina. SGLC wishes you nothing but the best! 🎓❤️

Hey Ramblers! Are you interested in a position in which you are able to advocate for student concerns at the University level and sit alongside administrators, staff, and faculty? Consider applying for a University Senate Student Representative and/or Board of Trustees Representative position! These are not senator positions within the SGLC, but they are a part of the shared governance system at Loyola.

Senior Spotlight time!! This one is for our Chief Health and Wellness Officer, Raheyma Siddiqui (she/her). A newly added position to the SGLC, there is no one else who would've been the ideal candidate (just look at her advice for you).

Like many of us, Raheyma also enjoyed the virtual retreats, in-service, and community nights! When asked about her favorite spot on campus, she said, "The Piper Hall patio overlooking the garden and Lake Michigan."

Raheyma's biggest accomplishment in SGLC is "passing the To***co, Smoke, and Vape-free Campus Policy through SGLC and University Senate after years of research and advocacy!"

A true advocate for students' wellness, Raheyma will be missed greatly at Loyola. SGLC wishes you nothing but the best! ❤️🎓

The following Senior Spotlight is for our 2020-2021 Vice President, Martin Flores (he/him). Although a great leader and team member, Martin prefers to study alone on the 3rd floor of the IC.

When asked his favorite memory of SGLC, Martin said, "Our Fall Retreat in 2020 - though virtual, we were able to connect with one another, make meaningful organizational goals, and get inspired for the year to come."

"This work, and arguably all of this life, is about people, not just outcomes or goals. This is a hard realization when you're in an education system that emphasizes outcomes and grades, but taking time to notice the people around me and appreciating the "journey" is my biggest takeaway from both SGLC and Loyola." Great words, Martin.

Thank you, Martin, for your excellent leadership this crazy year, we could not have done it without you! SGLC wishes you nothing but the best! ❤️🎓

The student body is invested in seeking racial justice and is concerned about the relationship between Campus Safety and the student body. The SGLC recommends that Campus Safety continue consulting to SGLC and other student leaders with the goal of decreasing its anonymity through the transparent communication of its policies and procedures. The next senior spotlight is for the amazing Tess Mooney (she/her) who served as our Chief Justice.

Tess's biggest take-away from her time at Loyola is that "there are so many different paths to take through your time at Loyola, and no matter where you go, you will meet incredible people along the way." (Thanks, Tess, you're incredible too).

In 10 years, Tess sees herself "working in a school or community organization advocating for better learning systems and conditions for students."

Tess, thank you for all that you've done in SGLC, we wish you nothing but the best! ❤️🎓

The SGLC calls upon the Vice President for Enrollment Management and the Office of the Provost to effectively terminate the Educational Partnership between the CPD and Loyola on the grounds that officers regularly target marginalized communities at a disproportionate level and are scarcely held accountable for doing so, actions of which do not align with the Jesuit values cultivated by the University. Our next senior spotlight will be our beloved 3-time Chief Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer, Taylor Thomas (she/her). Taylor's favorite spot on campus is the lakefront quad between Madonna Della Strada and Coffey Hall (the correct answer).

Taylor's biggest take-away from SGLC is "never forget about the people/voices you’re serving. That’s what advocacy work is all about!" Clearly, Taylor knows all about being an advocate for others because her biggest accomplishment in SGLC is "the passing of the Black History Month Recognition Resolution last year! And advising on this year’s creation of the Vice President of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion role at the university!"

Thank you for the dedication and hard work you've put into Loyola during your time here, Taylor, nothing goes unnoticed and SGLC wishes you nothing but the best ❤️🎓

Senior Spotlight!! Our first spotlight will be our wonderful Chief Financial Officer, Jorge Bello (he/him). When asked what his favorite memory of SGLC, he said, "Listening to the wild presentations during PowerPoint night" (Thanks, Erla).

Any ECON class with Prof. Julian Diaz was his favorite, which is a good thing for Jorge because in 10 years, he sees himself "conducting economic research or starting my own business."

Jorge loved working with other truly dedicated people and is proud to have created a pathway for responsive mental health resources.

Thank you for all your hard work this year, Jorge!! SGLC wishes you the best ❤️🎓
