Remembering Treasured Chicago Folk Singer Jesus ‘Chuy’ Negrete

I encourage you to learn about Jesus 'Chuy' Negrete. He inspired me and many others due to his folks singing focused on social justice, immigrant and workers rights. He will be missed.

The troubadour of the city’s barrios and soundtrack to the Chicano rights movement will be honored this weekend at the National Museum of Mexican Art.

I visited PAWS Chicago today and toured their facility on 26th street one block from my office. They do amazing work and according to them their spayed and neuter program helped Chicago Animal Care and Control go from euthanizing about 50,000 animals per year in the late 90’s to under 2,000 annually now. Great work!

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Committee on Design: September 2021. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

Registration for the September 8th meeting is now open on the Committee on Design webpage, which will feature a presentation by St. Anthony Hospital on their proposal for 31st and Kedzie. This meeting is not a substitute for Plan Commission, which will still hold a public hearing for this project once the Planned Development review process is complete by the City of Chicago, which should happen months from now. Nor is this a substitute for community meetings that also will be held soon.

"The Committee on Design is a volunteer group of 24 urban design professionals organized by the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) to advise Commissioner Maurice Cox and DPD staff on design excellence for key development projects and urban design initiatives...

Formed in July 2021, the committee's recommendations provide advisory guidance to DPD staff and members of a project's development team.

Upcoming meetings of the Commitee on Design will take place virtually on Zoom and live streamed on DPD's YouTube page. Members of the public are welcome to register for each meeting on Zoom and provide comments or questions in the Zoom Q&A box. Commitee members may refer to these comments or questions during the discussion.

Written public comment on the proposals will also be accepted for two weeks after each meeting at [email protected]. Additional opportunities for public input and discussion are also being explored as a part of this pilot committee, suggestions are welcome at [email protected]."

Addressing Social Isolation in Chicago

We need to do more to address the social isolation felt by our seniors. One way we have done so is through the approval of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU's) in certain parts of the city including west of Homan in North Lawndale and Little Village. ADU's create affordable housing and support for seniors who wish to stay close to family. To learn more read the attached AARP Illinois article or call our office at 773-762-1771.

A new ordinance that allows additional dwelling units, which are secondary structures built on existing lots, can help to alleviate social isolation by allowing older Chicagoans to live affordably near their families.

‘Water for All’ ordinance would provide ‘accessible, affordable’ water delivery, alderman says

“The Water for All ordinance would also prohibit any future privatization of the city’s water system, including language that city leaders “may not sell, lease, transfer or outsource the operation or control of the Chicago Waterworks System.”

Ald. Michael Rodriguez (22) said protecting the city’s water system against privatization is "one of the most important" portions of the proposal. Rodriguez said he would "absolutely oppose any of those efforts" to privatize the utility. “

The lead sponsor of an ordinance that would make permanent a ban on city water shutoffs and expand the city’s affordable billing program says he hopes his proposal, which aldermen were supportive of on Friday, is passed by the end of the year.

The La Villita Chamber of Commerce announces the lighting of the Little Village Arch in lieu of hosting the 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade and the Fiestas Patrias Festival. Instead, the historic Little Village Arch will be lit for the month of September in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of Little Village community residents and visitors as COVID-19 numbers now continue to rise in Little Village and the state of Illinois. I want know what the point of street cleaning if there are various neighbors that refuse to move their vehicles, the sweeper will pass by but it doesn't full clean the streets if there cars that are there. And the garbage doesn't fully sweeped because those neighbors that refuse to move so they don't loose their parking spot, I think it's fair to anyone.

To whom this may concern, I have always wondered who cleans the bridge on 31st Kostner towards Cicero Ave. This is a bridge that is always used daily from fellow residents, I use it daily to get to work but it is dangerous to walk on since their is ice and snow and no one from the city comes and cleans it, since all downtown bridges are clean so should the rest of them.
February 3, 2021 was the deadline for putting in an application for one of the 10 vacancies for the office of associate judge of the Cook County Circuit Court. We all know that Howard Brookins Jr. isn't a very good choice for the process. Why? Howard Brookins Jr. is disreputable, unscrupulous and he suffers from Post Concussion Syndrome and Permanent Brain Damage. Many citizens of our great city Chicago have doubt about Howard Brookins Jr. mental stability. He has hideous facial disfigurations, he wears an orthodontic prosthesis, and he has been known to be gang affiliated. Howard Brookins Jr. has been the subject of a federal investigation for accepting bribes. He also has been fined by The City of Chicago's Inspector General Office for illicit fiduciary duties such as being deceptive in his duty to keep accurate and sufficient Tax Records and Payroll Records. Recently Howard Brookins Jr. has been fined for for representing clients in an adverse role. The Model Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys state: (a) Except as provided in paragraph (b), a lawyer shall not represent a client if the representation involves a concurrent conflict of interest. A concurrent conflict of interest exists if: (1) the representation of one client will be directly adverse to another client; or (2) there is a significant risk that the representation of one or more clients will be materially limited by the lawyer's responsibilities to another client, a former client or a third person or by a personal interest of the lawyer. (b) Notwithstanding the existence of a concurrent conflict of interest under paragraph (a), a lawyer may represent a client if: (1) the lawyer reasonably believes that the lawyer will be able to provide competent and diligent representation to each affected client; (2) the representation is not prohibited by law; (3) the representation does not involve the assertion of a claim by one client against another client represented by the lawyer in the same litigation or other proceeding before a tribunal; and (4) each affected client gives informed consent, confirmed in writing. Howard Brookins Jr. violated The Model Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys by representing a former alderman with the name of Proco Joe Moreno wantonly and flagrantly. My personal opinion on that matter is that Howard Brookins Jr.'s Post Concussion Syndrome and Permanent Brain Damage Mental Health issues are behind his brazen disregard of The Model Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys. With all of the above being conveyed to all who have chosen to read this comment thank you. I hope you realize that Howard Brookins Jr. shouldn't be considered for a Cook County, Illinois judgeship. Sincerely, Jacques Darrow Carr, LDA at Law
When will the snow plow clean little village streets?
Our recycling has not been picked up in over 4 weeks. While I realize that the last two weeks were short weeks, that doesn't change the fact that it has been sitting there for close to 5 weeks. They really have no excuse. We might have had 2 days in the past 2 months where the trucks were used for plowing or salting. What gives?
A BIG shout out and BIG THANK YOU! to ALL our generous Sponsors and volunteers!
Goodmorning Alderman now that the weather is changing, and snow is in the forecast, could you please make sure that all the bridges and streets are clean, one in particular is the one on 31st street going towards Cicero Ave. At times it can be slippery and dangerous. Thankyou and have a great day
Thank you for following through on your word! #sleepyhollow community is extremely happy this morning!
