"It’s no accident that the Protect Chicago initiative's first vaccination event was held in Belmont Cragin – the neighborhood with the city’s largest Latino population and also among those hardest hit by the virus."
We are proud to be working with many Belmont Cragin nonprofits and health care providers as part of the city's Protect Chicago program to help residents access Covid-19 resources and PPE, and get registered for the vaccine– starting with day care workers and seniors.
A new program kicked off Saturday to make sure in the future, those minority communities who need the vaccine most have a fair shot.

In the midst of a pandemic, Chicago tenants are still facing threats of eviction, especially once the federal and state moratoriums on evictions eventually come to an end. Not all of those threats are due to non-payment of rent which means rental assistance won't help everyone, and we know that evictions have tremendous racial disparities even in the best of times. These are far from the best of times.
Just Cause for Evictions will provide renters with more protection to avoid the worst housing crisis yet. Learn more about Just Cause and how you can support the ordinance in City Council at www.JustCauseChicago.org. Help us pass Just Cause for Evictions now, before the eviction moratoriums go away. Let's help keep people in their homes. #JustCauseChicago #NoFaultEvictions #RentersRights

"There are many times I’d show up to school or work late- not because I have poor time management, but because the busses didn’t arrive on time. I should be able to depend on transit. And it’s a shame that recently I haven’t been able to. That's why we are working hard to fight for that equity here and across the city– from the west side, south side, north side- transportation should be equal." - Zair, Belmont Cragin Youth Leadership Council member
Transit Equity Day serves as a national day of action that commemorates the birthday of Rosa Parks, reminding us that public transit is a fought-after civil right.
To mark this day, Zair, spoke on a panel of transportation activists at the Active Transportation Alliance Transit Equity Day virtual conference.

Tomorrow's inauguration offers a glimpse at a better future. But only if we actively continue dismantling the house that racism built. Give this essay a read today, written by our own Linda Peters:
"Trump was the Great White Hope for the Lost Cause and against The Great Replacement nightmare haunting the souls of white nationalists. And even if he's convicted by the Senate in the long trial to come following his second impeachment, Trumpism has been unleashed and is spreading. But this virus is old, it started in this country in 1619. The vaccine against it is truth, justice, racial equity, and reparations."
By Linda Peters Jan. 15, 2021 Watching a mostly white, mostly male mob storm the U.S. Capitol on January 6, I was both shocked and not surprised at the same time. I knew as a biracial woman born and raised in Chicago, I was seeing white folks act like they own the place– b

On New Year's Eve, Salvador Mendoza was finishing up his last food and supply delivery to a family in need when his car was stolen, and later found totaled beyond repair.
Salvador is a member of the Northwest Side Housing Center's Rapid Response Team, a group of Belmont Cragin residents who help coordinate the delivery of essential goods like PPE, groceries, and baby supplies to families who have been among the hardest hit by this pandemic.
The NWSHC and Cara Chicago are helping Salvador file an insurance claim and connecting him with some emergency cash + resources, but we are asking for your support to help him cover the cost of a new car. Any help you can give will go a long way to help Salvador get back on the road and in the community!
