"We adopt the means of nonviolence because our end is a community at peace with itself. We will try to persuade with our words, but if our words fail, we will try to persuade with our acts." -Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All are welcome to come and join PBMR in the Campaign Nonviolence week of action to transform the realities of racism, violence, war, poverty, and environmental destruction in our neighborhood, city, and society.

Music is the language of the soul. Our young people are learning and creating music here at PBMR every Tuesday afternoon with the help of our friend and teacher, Carl Gale, SVD.

We're so grateful for the ways this PBMR family offers their time, talent, and treasure to support and care for our youth and families. Don't hesitate to get in touch to get involved with this budding PBMR band!

Precious Records: Arts & Accompaniment

"My point is that our youth need a space to express themselves through rap, and to facilitate each other’s expression through hip hop culture. Providing such a space is a mandate of Catholic accompaniment... to walk alongside our siblings in Christ, to become like those that are suffering so that they might know they are not in isolation, but always in deep relationship with another."

Click below to read more of Thomas' reflection on art, accompaniment, and creating space for our young people to flourish.

With covid cases on the rise, and our community at risk, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person fundraiser and move virtual once again.

*There will be no event on September 25th.

During the month of October, a series of virtual opportunities will take place where you will be invited to join us in conversation and join us in restoring home and a sense of belonging with our youth, returning citizens, and their families.

While hosting a large community gathering right now presents significant risks, we are still able to welcome individuals and small groups (5-10) to visit PBMR.You are always welcome to come, see the campus, and grow in relationship with the community—send us a message or email [email protected] to set up a time!

Stay tuned for more information about the October schedule!

“Didn't you know?...You can move mountains. You can do anything.” -Bob Ross

On Monday, this young man wowed the room as he transformed his blank canvas into this majestic mountain scene in less than 30 minutes, just by watching a YouTube tutorial. He shared that this was his first painting, but now he says it won't be his last!

Lament—Healing Together

"There they sat shoulder to shoulder in the sun as one after another checked in, telling the heartbreaking story of how they lost their son, their daughter, their brother, their uncle, their grandchild, and how they carry this indescribable pain every day... All around the circle, there were eye glances saying, 'I feel you…. I love you'..."

Save the Date—Saturday, September 25 is our Fall Fundraiser! We're hopeful to gather outside here at PBMR for an afternoon of socially distanced community and home-coming celebration.

This year's theme is "Coming Home"—a look at the value and beauty of home. We hope to bring home to our community whether it be in the form of family, freedom, or a roof above our heads. Come, see, and hear stories about how PBMR is working to bring families home.

*There will also be virtual opportunities to participate for those unable to attend!

Today is the Feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe, a priest who lost his life in Auschwitz Prison alongside 1.1 million whose lives were taken within its walls. During his incarceration, he accompanied those around him, shared his food, prayed with his neighbors, and helped them know that they were not alone.

Today, there are 2.3 million people currently incarcerated in the US—the most of any country around the world. May we follow the example of Maximilian and work to accompany those incarcerated, seek restoration over retaliation, and ensure that they know they are not alone.

*Painting by Victor Lopez imagining St. Maximillian Kolbe standing in from of the Cook County Department of Corrections here in Chicago.

Today, on #internationalyouthday, we echo the greeting of the Masai warriors: "How are the Children?"

Masai warriors defend the remarkably strong community of the Masai people in East Africa, and their daily greeting to one another is, "Kasserian Ingera" meaning, "How are the children?"...the response, "All the children are well."

Their community understands that the well being of a community resides in the well being of its children—that when all the children are safe and well, the rest of the community flourishes. They see all children as the responsibility of the community. Whether blood related or not, we belong to each other.

Today, in our community, may we too ask, "How are the children?" And work toward an honest response, that yes, indeed, "All the children are well."
