Keep pressure on workers' rights bills

Labor Day is a moment to celebrate the contributions of the labor movement in our country and the roots of the labor movement in Chicago. This Labor Day, we take a moment to say THANK YOU to our partners at Chicago Federation of Labor and to all who keep our Chicago region going. 💙

“2021 is the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Chicago Federation of Labor. Today is a moment to celebrate the progress the working class has made in that time.” – Bob Reiter, president of the Chicago Federation of Labor

A BIG congratulations to BUILD Chicago, a longtime partner of United Way and a key leader in the Austin Neighborhood Network. Yesterday, we had the honor of being present at the groundbreaking event for the BUILD the Future campaign in Austin. United Way of Metro Chicago is a proud investor in this transformative effort that will be an expansion of BUILD’s current Austin facility, creating a campus that will offer expanded services for youth, create safe, accessible community and fitness spaces for all Austin residents, and bring a café to South Austin.

Congratulations again to CEO Adam Alonso, the entire BUILD team and our Austin Neighborhood Network partners. We look forward to continuing our work together as we build a stronger, more equitable Austin community!

#LIVEUNITED #NeighborhoodNetwork #BUILDChicago #ChicagoCantWait

BUILD THE FUTURE is a bold $24 million campaign to invest in the young people of Chicago’s West Side, strengthening them and the neighborhoods we serve with a full city-block campus, with 51,000 sq feet of new and renovated space surrounded by green play fields and gardens.

Located at Harrison and Laramie at Austin’s Southern Gateway, the transformed campus will stand for growth, opportunity, joy, and every child’s right to grow up and achieve their potential.

Today's Groundbreaking event, celebrating the new campus to come, was a sounding success!

We partnered with the Village of Park Forest and Cook County Department of Public Health to hold two vaccination sites for Park Forest residents. Pictured here is Margaret Lewis, Community Health Coordinator of the Village of Park Forest, and two nurses who administered a handful of community members' second doses of the Pfizer vaccine on Saturday. The event was part of a larger community-based outreach effort in neighborhoods with little vaccine access and low vaccination rates.

Unleashing the potential of greater Chicago…neighborhood by neighborhood.

As Chicagoans, we’re proud of our neighborhoods. From city to suburbs and everywhere in between, we love where we live and we want to see our communities thrive. However, gaps in healthcare, education and employment threaten to destabilize our region and the people who live here. That’s why United Way of Metro Chicago is committed to fighting for the health, education, financial stability, and safety of every person in every neighborhood across the Chicago region.
