Dear Supporters,

I would like to thank you for your strong community commitment and support of my work in North Lawndale.

After prayer and thoughtful consideration, I chose not to file my candidacy for Alderman of the 24th Ward. I will be giving my support to the candidate I deem most align to my personal values on service, economic development and support of the youth. I will remain active in the North Lawndale community.

In the wake of a year that has witnessed concerning and alarming decisions involving the mortality of young African-American males, I have decided to instead take a stand for social justice and make my service targeted toward youth, violence prevention and re-entry.

As an alternative to the campaign, I will devote my time over the next year to developing job training and placement programs for ex-offenders. Currently, I am working on a social entrepreneurship venture to address the recidivism rate within the community. I will continue my passion of resource development and mentorship – including the Gregory School Council.

In addition, if you are still interested in taking part in restoring the community, I am in need of young males aged 18-35 for my current project.

My contact information will remain the same, [email protected] and 773-644-1146. I look forward to hearing from you all.

We have work to do to keep North Lawndale moving ahead. We can still ignite change, together.

Please keep me in your prayers!

Sincerely,

Leshawn R. James

Despite the results of the Gubernatorial election. It shouldn't change the fact that you participated in the democratic process. So don't give up, continue to fight, and engage someone else to get involved in the process. This should not be classified as a loss, but simply as an unfortunate wake-up call. Let's #IGNITECHANGE together.

Yesterday we had a great and informative day speaking with 24th ward residents on 16th street. After several conversations I met a guy by the name of Dwayne. He wanted to know how could the alderman increase employment opportunities throughout the community. After the conversation ended we had a survey full of community input to research solutions to current problems. I am grateful for the opportunity that has been bestowed upon me and I look forward to
Igniting Change in my community.

Please tune into 1450 am tonight with host Garfield Major, Pastor T Govan Campbell, And Congressman Danny K. Davis.

I love spending time with the seniors from my community. On Saturday morning I partnered with the community garden program to distribute perennials to some of the sweetest lady's you could ever met. I have included some of the photos from this event.

This campaign has taught me a lot about my community and it not going to be easy fix, but I know that with preparation it is achievable.
