A selection of six Italian contemporary shorts will be available online from December 21 at 1pm CT to December 23 at 12am CT. One of them is “Mami Wata” directed by Paola Ortolani.

Gaia lives with her adoptive grandmother in a rural house. She has a special relationship with a white lily plant she grew in her grandmother's land. Cristina is the daughter of a very powerful entrepreneur. She is different from all little girls. Her skin, diaphanous because she is albino, creates a wall of distance with the surrounding reality. When her father, an unscrupulous man, wants the land of Gaia's grandmother, Cristina rebels. A story of a pure and simple friendship, Mami Wata takes its name from an African divinity, a symbol of water and the duality of nature: pure and uncontaminated, rebellious and free.

Last night Silvia Tarozzi and Deborah Walker dazzled a room full of people—including many kids, who love rebel worksongs of female Italian rice planters, the Mondine.

Silvia and Deborah performed the U.S. premiere of 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪 𝘥𝘪 𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢, 𝘥𝘪 𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳𝘰 𝘦 𝘥’𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦, a transcription and reinterpretation of folksongs from their birthplace, the rural Emilia-Romagna region, for violin, cello and voice.

Don’t miss Songs on War, Work and Love!

On December 3 at 4pm CT Silvia Tarozzi & Deborah Walker duo will perform the U.S. premiere of "Canti di guerra, di lavoro e d’amore", a transcription and reinterpretation of Italian folksongs, at The Graham Foundation's Madlener House.

Their songs tell a story of hard and poorly paid work, love, the hypocrisy of society, protests, war, the challenge of work, women away from home, the violence of power and the need for a common political conscience.

Presented by Lampo in partnership with the Graham Foundation and the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago.

Presented by Laughing Stock Theatre Renaissance, and directed by Italian director Antonio Fava, Italy comes to 21st Century Chicago at Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture.

Pantalone, upon writing his last will and testament, is suddenly missing and presumed dead. His friends and family squabbles over the various “true” wills they produce. Hilarious and dramatic antics will return the status quo in the end.

Giuliano Logos o Archivio Tipografico
