Photo from the "On The Table" Event here at ABJ Community Services, Inc. We had an inter-generational conversation about how we are affected and traumatized by the negative images that we see as a community.

We at Annie B. Jones Community Services, Inc are utterly saddened at the tragic death of Javon Wilson, grandson of Congressman Danny Davis. Javon was in our After School Matters program last summer 2015. He was 14 years old at the time. He was killed by gun violence a few days ago at the tender age of 15 years old. He was a gentle young man. Congressman Davis visited ABJ before releasing his grandson (Javon) and his granddaughter (Javon's sister) to the program in an effort to assure their safety. How sad and even more tragic it is that we just refuse to truly unify and STAND UP FOR OUR CHILDREN AND TO THINK, OUR ANCESTORS GAVE THEIR LIVES TO STAND UP FOR US.....oohmmm.....May this baby rest in God's wonderful peace. God Bless all families involved and Bless our children.

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. My name is Heather Lynn Burnside, garden manager and volunteer coordinator for the South Merrill Community Garden. The garden is in great need of volunteers and monetary support! We are working on various beautification/landscaping projects for this year's growth and harvest seasons along with establishing programs that teach basic gardening skills and the importance of healthy eating. We will also be focusing on beautifying the South Merrill block and a few vacant lots in the South Shore neighborhood (Chicago, IL) with various sunflowers and other wildflowers. If you or anyone else is interested in donating time, gardening tools, seeds, and/or money, please share this post and follow us on our South Merrill Community Garden page. Please donate what you can. We greatly appreciate it! Thank you!
