World Cancer Day, observed each year on February 4th, offers ACS an opportunity to increase awareness that cancer has no borders. It is an opportunity to remind the global community that ACS is committed to be a leader in the fight for a world without cancer and that we take a strategic and focused approach to combating cancer across the globe. Worldwide, cancer is the second leading cause of death. Cancer knows no boundaries, respects no borders. See how the American Cancer Society is truly leading the fight for a world with no cancer: www.cancer.org/worldcancerday
February is National Cancer Prevention Month. While there is no certain way to prevent cancer, there are certain risk factors that increase the likelihood. You can take action to lower those risks through healthy lifestyle choices & getting recommended cancer screenings.
We couldn’t resist the trend! to skyline and in person events. We cannot wait to see what this year brings and to be back together🤞🏼💛

Q. What inspired you to join the ABOA?
A. I’d say it was a combination of two things. The first being that I am at a point in my life where I wanted to start to give back a bit, in time and effort. There are a lot of great causes out there, and some that speak to different people in different ways. For me, none so much as ABOA. Here is a group of young professionals like myself in Chicago, who are trying to fight back against the toughest sickness in history. What I saw happening with great members such as Joelle Groboski and my brother Connor, and the results they were getting, I knew this would be a great cause to support in any way I could.
Q. How did you get involved so quickly and participate in our Race to the 5Kyline programming?
A. Well after my acceptance into ABOA on the 19th and the quick intro call with Chris on the 22nd, I got an understanding of the challenges nonprofits face during COVID. ABOA has a strong reliance on great events like the Soiree and other in-person events that they couldn’t do this year. I knew I had the pass to wait until next year to start trying to raise funds, but that’s not why I joined now. I heard Chris mention in our call about the race, and that spurned the idea to try something a little different than that to try and raise funds. I’m the kind of guy whose friends love to see go through a little pain/humiliation, so I tried to capitalize on that with my…”unique” race.
Q. What are you most looking forward to moving forward with the ABOA?
A. Might sound like a cliché answer in 2020, but for me its to meet the other people of this organization! The people I know are all awesome people, and a few like Emily Fitzgerald and Joelle were great role models of mine growing up. I really look forward to meeting everyone else, and get a true sense of the organization and community that this group fosters.
