How artists manipulate architectural qualities to produce some very interesting effects.
"she was building hallucinatory rooms with programmable LEDs, which are easy to manipulate, last a long time, and emit little heat. Those qualities allowed her to compose the lights like music..."
The most compelling visual artists are tech innovators, using advanced materials, industrial design, and clever light manipulation to trick your brain.

Meet Maya!
UIC faculty member Maya Nash will be leading HiArch 2016.
Maya is an architectural designer and educator. She received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from UIC, and has worked for architecture firms both big and small. Her independent design work includes the build-out and expansion of a bar/restaurant in her neighborhood, Logan Square.
As an undergrad student, Maya studied math and earth science. After graduation, she spent five summers in southeast Utah working as a whitewater river guide on the Colorado and Green Rivers where she learned about river and desert ecology, boats, camping and so much more. The rest of the year she spent in Chicago working in restaurants and learning how to illustrate and screen print, mainly doing posters for local bands. Eventually, she formed a band called Treasurer with long-time friends and musicians, in which she sings and plays analog synthesizer.
Hey high school students! Thinking about majoring in architecture, but not sure if it’s right for you? HiArch can help! Register by July 1 at http://arch.uic.edu/HiArch.
