Illinois Public Interest Research Group: Don't let health insurers waste our premium dollars

The law says health insurers have to spend at least 80% of their customers' premiums on actual health care or else pay back the difference. As a result, 9 million Americans should be getting rebate checks totaling more than $1.4 billion.

But the health insurance lobby is fighting back, trying to pass a law that would let them keep our money. Please take a minute to urge our Senators to not let health insurers waste our premium dollars.

Urge our senators to make sure we don't pay for health insurers' waste.

Loopholes for Sale: Campaign Contributions by Corporate Tax Dodgers | Illinois PIRG

We have a new report out today that looks at Congressional campaign contributions of the "Dirty Thirty"-- companies that collectively paid no income tax between 2008 and 2010.

“These aggressive tax dodgers left nothing to chance by making campaign contributions to all but ten current members of Congress,” said Illinois PIRG Director Brian Imus. “The pervasiveness of that money across party lines speaks volumes about why major proposals to close corporate tax loopholes have not even come up for a vote.”

A new report by Illinois PIRG and Citizens for Tax Justice (CTJ) found that thirty unusually aggressive tax dodging corporations have made campaign contributions to 524 (98 percent) sitting members of Congress, and disproportionately to the leadership of both parties and to key committee members.
