It's a rainy week in Chicago! Make sure to check your block's sewer catch basin and clear it of any debris that may block drainage.
As a reminder, the City installed intake restrictor valves in our sewers to slow down the speed at which water enters the sytem. That means that when there's too much rain your street is meant to temporarily flood to keep the sewer system from being overwhelmed and backing up into your basement. The water will normally drain in 1 to 2 days. If it doesn't, and you cleared the catch basin of debris, you should call our office 773.985.3510 to request a sewer inspection.

After years of attempting to secure funding from CPS to repair the crumbling Nixon School playground in Hermosa, Nixon parents, Hermosa Neighborhood Association, Community Organizing and Family Issues (COFI), community organizations, and Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa addressed the need by securing funds from the 35th Ward menu fund, non-profit KaBOOM!, and donations from residents, businesses and Alderman Ramirez-Rosa.
This past weekend, despite the heat, Nixon parents, Hermosa residents, and Alderman Ramirez-Rosa came together to build the new playground that will serve over 900 Nixon School families and thousands of children that call Hermosa home. This a testament of what we can achieve when we work together to put our neighborhoods first:
