Residential and arterial street sweeping will start tomorrow, Thursday, April 1 throughout the City of Chicago and runs through November.

Alderman Edward M. Burke is reminding the 14th Ward residents to carefully check for bright orange signs while parking so as to avoid receiving a ticket from the Chicago Department of Finance for failure to remove vehicles during street sweeping.

Parking restrictions are posted the day before sweeping is scheduled and are in place to ensure curb-to-curb cleaning in neighborhoods.

Please note that some streets have permanently posted signs that specify a once-per-week period when parking is prohibited for street sweeping during the season.

Get to Know Me

As a proud lifelong resident of Chicago’s Southwest Side, I’ve devoted my entire adult life to serving the people who call the greatest city in the world home. I began my career as a Chicago Police Officer in 1965, a post I held for three years until I decided that I wanted to do more for my neighborhood by running for Alderman of the 14th Ward.

Before that, I graduated from Quigley Prep in 1961 and decided to attend college at DePaul, where I graduated in 1965 with an undergraduate degree in sociology and in 1968 with a law degree. 1968 is also the year that I got married and became Democratic Committeeman of the 14th Ward. A year later, I was elected Alderman. Since then, I have held the honor of serving my friends and neighbors in the 14th Ward in order to make sure their voices are heard in important discussions about the future of our city.

None of this would have been possible without my wife, Anne, a current Illinois Supreme Court Justice. She and I are the proud parents of five remarkable children: Jennifer, Edward, Sarah, Travis, and the late Emmett.

My community involvement doesn’t stop with my duties as Alderman, however. I’ve been involved in many civic and charitable organizations throughout the years. The St. Gall Food Pantry, One Hundred Club of Cook County, the Knights of Columbus, the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago, and Misieracordia are a few that I hold near and dear to my heart.

Please have this pothole repaired as one enters into alley between 56th Sacramento and Whipple 57th Formal channels have been exhausted. Thank you for your time.
Can something PLEASE be done about an abandoned car in front of my house whose alarm goes off EVERY time a car goes by or a plane goes over???? It’s been more than 3 weeks and it keeps us up ALL night!!!!
What are you doing to beautify and make public spaces more accessible to our neighbors and thus reduce the gun violence that especially plagues the east part of the 14th Ward? And I'm not talking about one park/moving the headquarters of the park district here, I'm talking about overall improving the beauty and connectedness of this community, and not just Garfield Ridge.

Mr Alderman Burke its been a week with no st lights on 5300 S. Fairfield ave . We have called to make a report and they haven't came. Could you please do something for the safety of your voters please. Thank you.🙏
Some facts I learned about our flag. The first fold of our Flag is a symbol of life. The second fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life. The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world. The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance. The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, “Our Country, in dealing with other countries may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.” The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our Republic. The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day. The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded. The tenth fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born. The eleventh fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The twelfth fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. The thirteenth fold: When the Flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our Nation’s motto, “In God We Trust.” After the Flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.
It seems to be evident that the people in the 14th ward have no problem with their alderman, Alderman Burke, which was shown by the overwhelming amount of votes he received in the recent election which got him re-elected for another term. But for some reason Mayor Lightfoot has started some kind of vendetta against Alderman Burke. Her main agenda when dealing with Alderman Burke seems to be an ongoing bad attitude to "show him" who's the boss instead of working with him so that he can continue to do the job that the voters put him in office to continue to do. What happened to the law of "innocent til proven guilty." She's already got him resigned, locked away and executed yet the man hasn't even had his day in court. The hatred she has for Alderman Burke is so evident that it can be seen by the way she dissects and scrutinizes his every move. No matter what he says or does Lightfoot snarls at him with hatefulness and dismisses him with discuss as if he's nobody...I'm assuming she feels that she is putting him in his place and degrading his character to show him that he has no power and he's her little b#*^h now...that's how she comes off looking. She is rude and disrespectful to a community leader that many people feel has done very good work in the 14th ward. I wonder how the mayor would feel if she was disrespected in this matter by political partners that for some/any reason did not like her and displayed that same nasty attitude towards her in an nonprofessional way. I'm sure she would not tolerate such an action. She claims her hostility is justified by, as she constantly states in interviews, his alleged criminal activity, but as a former lawyer you would think she would recognize, (as expressed in her own statements), the definition of the word "alleged"!
We♡you!!
