Bhutanese Community Association of Illinois

Bhutanese Community Association of Illinois Bhutan is a small Himalayan country situated between India and China. Each community in Bhutan has its own rich culture and traditions. The community of Nepali-origin Bhutanese was forced to flee the country in the 1990s to protect themselves from the government and spent 20 years in Nepali refugee camps.

In 2008, the UNHCR approved resettlement in the US.

Mission: The mission of the BCAI is to promote, integrate and strengthen the social, economic, cultural and professional values of Bhutanese immigrants as well as the community at large. Our work at the BCAI creates a self-reliant and integrated Bhutanese community in Chicago. The BCAI empowers recent immigrants to: - build language skills by taking ESL classes - become equipped for employment by attending workforce integration workshops - adapt to a new environment by taking citizenship classes and interacting with mentors - preserve cultural values and traditions by participating in festivals and celebrations
