Thank you to Keith Searles of Urban GIS for being our keynote speaker at the Minnesota GIS / LIS Consortium conference and speaking about EDGE Geospatial
North Point headed to Miami, Florida in January! Carolyn Adams and Heidi Fish went to Miami last week for an EDGE and business collaboration meeting. They talked about business goals, EDGE plans for diversity events, and had fun dancing and playing ping pong. They did not miss the frozen tundra of Minnesota for those few days. North Point is excited about whatโs to come in 2022 and they are grateful for their partnership with Urban GIS!

: Romeo is a second-semester Illinois PSM student, and is studying Geographic Information Science. In 2020, he graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he studied Geography & Geographic Information Systems. He says โI decided to get a Master's degree because I wanted to increase my career opportunities in the future. I was drawn to the PSM program because the business skills and scientific knowledge you learn can go hand-in-hand with many industries.โ
Romeo will be interning this summer at Urban GIS as a GIS Field Intern. After graduation, he hopes to work in the environmental industry, whether in the private sector or the government.
This week North Point would like to give a shoutout to Urban GIS!

EDGE stands for Ethnically Diverse Geospatial Engagement and was founded by Keith Searles from Urban GIS. As Keith explains on the EDGE site:
โThe primary purpose of EDGE is to build a network of people involved with geospatial enterprises from all walks of life who care about making a difference by assisting individuals and companies founded by people from disenfranchised ethnic groups. The collective goal is for the aspiring applicants and opportunity seekers to become more aware and prepared to take advantage of jobs, internships, and projects within the geospatial industry. The network is open to all no matter your ethnic background or socioeconomic standing. The only criteria to join is to possess in the united goal and sincere desire to contribute and be a part of changing the narrative. Letโs take the mapping world to the EDGE.โ

Any GIS volunteer opportunities
Our very own Rashod R. Johnson was the recipient of the Rufus Taylor Award at the 22nd Annual March of Dimes Illinois Chapter 2016 Construction & Transportation Awards Luncheon last month! This wonderful event raised more than $210,000 to support the organization's goal of improving overall health to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality, and TRG was proud to be part of it yet again. Be sure to check out Rashod's compelling (and entertaining!) acceptance speech here:
Thank you to Urban GIS for sharing the video!

My name is Amber and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in environmental science in may 2010 from hampton university and completed a gis certificate program at old dominion university in may of 2013. Im currently looking for gis technician jobs or environmental science jobs and keep getting rejected because I do not have enough experience even though i did 10 week internships during the summers while i was attending college. Hello, i'm a geographer from Greece and i try to create a community with people from all disciplines, who will contribute with new ideas to the implementation of mapping projects about: sustainable development, environmental protection, precision farming, permaculture, landscape ecology, disaster management, animal population management, urban planning, business analysis with GIS, socioeconomic research etc. Someday i will publish my book titled: "Applications of Spatial Analysis for Precision Agriculture" and the ArcGIS Toolbox i have made for this book. With these tools you will be able to calculate automatic and accurate the different Keylines on the elevation and to find the right locations to build swales, ponds and dams using a Digital Elevation Model. You will also be able to do soil analysis, erosion analysis, topographic indexes related with the flow of water on the terrain and soil humidity, vegetation analysis and a lot of new things. See my posts in my page to find out some of these terms.
For this purpose, I invite you to join my page and support my effort. Thanks in advance :)
