GSGP is honored to receive the President’s “E” Award for Export Service. The President’s “E” Award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.

Secretary Ross, in his congratulatory letter, said ““The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The “E” Awards Committee was very impressed with your organization’s implementation of this unique, non-competitive, cross-border partnership to pool resources in furtherance of export growth for the region. The organization’s trade missions over the previous four years that brought 146 companies to 13 foreign markets were also particularly notable. The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers’ achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs.”

The Conference of Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers is pleased to announce the opening of its new Trade Office in Jerusalem, Israel. The office will assist small to medium sized companies from the Great Lakes region to export their products and services to Israel and Jordan. The addition of the Israel office brings the GSGP’s network of shared international trade offices to 15 covering 98 global markets (https://www.gsgp.org/projects/international-trade/trade-offices/).

Israel is the US’ 24th largest goods trading partner with $34 billion in total trade during 2019. Goods exports totaled $14.4 billion while imports totaled $19.5 billion. Trade in services with Israel (exports and imports) totaled an estimated $15 billion in 2019. For Jordan, goods exports from the U.S. in 2019 were $1.5 billion with imports of $2.2 billion. Trade between both countries and the U.S. is facilitated by the existence of Free Trade Agreements allowing the unhindered passage of goods, duty-free.

The top export sectors for U.S. companies in this area are security, life sciences, medical devices, industrial equipment, gourmet processed foods and electrical equipment.

“Both Israel and Jordan are mature markets with companies eager to do business with U.S. and Canadian companies” says Sherwin Pomerantz, Director of the new GSGP Israel Trade Office. “The Great Lakes region, which includes such a high percentage of North America’s manufacturing capability, is a natural source of goods and services for both countries.” The Israel Trade Office stands ready to provide personal assistance to companies in the region seeking to explore new export markets in Israel and Jordan.
