Last week, I visited Ashish Sharma and his Climate Hub team at Discovery Partners Institute to talk about climate resilience in Cook County. Just over this summer Illinois, has seen more severe weather events than the past 5 years. As climate change continues to get worse, it is more important than ever to prepare our infrastructure to withstand severe weather. Check out climate-dpi.org to see their data models and current projects!

On Friday, I had the absolute pleasure of joining Senator Lakesia Collins and Urban Rivers for a tour of The Wild Mile, the world’s first ever Floating Eco-Park. This park, located in the North Branch Canal along Goose Island is part of a larger effort to renew urban ecology in a previously industrial waterway. Freshwater mussels have been reintroduced in this part of the river to act as natural biofilters. A single mussel can filter up to 20 gallons of water per day!

The Wild Mile is such a beautiful and innovate park that I encourage everyone to visit💧🌱

Welcome to Roscoe Village, Wells Fargo!🎈

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of the new Roscoe Village branch of Wells Fargo Bank. This project turned a previously dilapidated gas station into an opportunity for families to build wealth. Wells Fargo worked with the community to fulfill a vision for this corner that included a new building with plenty of green space in the heart of the neighborhood. We’re happy to welcome them to the 12th district!

On Tuesday, I had the great honor of speaking with the League of Women Voters of Cook County about my work on the County Board over the past 8 years. The League has been an incredible advocate for good government and transparency at County board meetings for years, and I have had the privilege to get to know Pris, Diane, and many other members of the organization.

I am proud of the work I have done and continue to do on the County board. THANK YOU to the League of Women Voters for letting me share that with you all!

🚨ATTENTION🚨

Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighbors, if you haven’t heard ComEd is planning to build a 47,000 sq ft substation at 1111 West Diversey. I don’t know about you, but I do NOT think this is the best use of land in the heart of a residential neighborhood, near local schools, and steps away from the Diversey brown and purple lines.

I want to hear from you!

This month, I had the opportunity to speak at INFRADAY Midwest, joining leaders from across the public and private sectors to discuss how local governments are preparing for increasingly severe weather and the growing challenges posed by climate change.

This is made worse by the fact that the Trump administration has cancelled energy projects for blue states. This is coupled with unprecedented denials of emergency declarations on a partisan basis again.

Our conversation focused on strengthening critical infrastructure, improving stormwater management, data collection, and investing in resilient transportation, water, and energy systems. In Cook County, these challenges are not theoretical. More frequent flooding, extreme heat, and severe storms require long-term planning and smart investments that protect both residents and taxpayers. The time to act is now.
