I will always remember where and what I was doing the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. I will always remember the shock, horror, and trauma. I will remember how many of us came together. I will also remember our Muslim (and Sikh) friends facing unnecessary persecution.

May we remember 9/11 as a call to lift up one another, as well as a reminder to reject reactionary violence at home and abroad.

Is your small business still reeling from COVID-19? More help has arrived with Illinois’ new $250 million #Back2Business (B2B) economic recovery program. Under #ARPA we are maximizing relief for the hardest hit industries and geographies by prioritizing entertainment venues, restaurants, and bars, as well as hard-hit geographies or communities across Illinois. What’s more, we have invested $9 million for 100+ community outreach navigator organizations in every corner of the state to help local businesses apply for and secure B2B financial support. Peters strengthens mental health crisis response

When you call an emergency number for a mental health emergency, you should be able to get a trained mental health response, and starting today, you will.

Shout out to State Representative Kelly Cassidy and Access Living for the tireless work that went into passing this legislation.

I also want to give special thanks to Renee Watts, whose brother Stephon was shot by police while he was suffering a mental health crisis.

Giving kids the chance to run around and play with their friends every day will go a long way toward making school a more enjoyable experience for students.
