Sara Feigenholtz, State Senator State Senator representing Illinois' 6th District. www.senatorsara.com We seek to accommodate free expression. We will report posts we deem violent, abusive, inflammatory, campaign-related, off-topic for the post or otherwise inappropriate.

Sara Feigenholtz joined the Illinois Senate in 2020 after serving in the Illinois House as State Representative of the 12th district. During her tenure in the House, Feigenholtz shepherded groundbreaking legislation that focused on health care access, reproductive rights and child welfare. An adopted person herself, Feigenholtz sponsored the law that gave Illinois born adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates, a right that had been denied since 1946. She also passed the Illinois Affordable Health Care Act law, extending Medicaid coverage to thousands of uninsured Illinoisans. After her years of representing Lakeview, Lincoln Park and near north neighborhoods, Feigenholtz moves to the Senate with a clear focus on the need for housing affordability, neighborhood safety and quality public education. Never one to shy away from new adventure, Feigenholtz embraces the opportunity to represent the district that now includes North Center, Roscoe Village, Ravenswood Manor, Bucktown and Albany Park neighborhoods. Senator Feigenholtz's commitment to health care justice extends into her private time serving as Vice President of the Kennedy Forum Illinois. KFI’s mission is to end the stigma of mental illness through education and policy reforms. She also currently serves on the National Association of Jewish Legislators board and remains active in numerous community organizations. A graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, Feigenholtz earned her B.A. in Political Science and Speech and Performing Arts. She is U of I Public Health Fellow and an emeritus of Harvard University's Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program.

Last week, my staff had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR). It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the issues that these groups are tackling and how we can address their priorities in the coming legislative session.

Thank you JCUA and ICIRR for reaching out. It is inspiring to hear from individuals who are so committed to fostering social change in our communities.

Boy scout and constituent Sean Ashden, from Oscar Mayer school, needed to meet with me in order to get his Democracy badge before the end of the year.

His parents called our office and asked if we could help.

We made a special visit so Sean could get his badge.
He asked really tough questions, but I think we got the job done.

He also loved the Lincoln souvenir we brought him.
