New Dinosaur 🦕 species is confirmed to be Australia’s largest! Remains from the newly named 'Australotitan cooperensis' were discovered by Robyn and Stuart Mackenzie, back in 2006, while riding motorbikes on their sheep and cattle farm in the Australian outback. They originally spotted a pile of what looked like large black rocks but on close inspection, they appeared to be dinosaur bones.

This week, researchers identified the 'Australotitan cooperensis' as a new species - believed to be a long-necked herbivore from the Cretaceous period, estimated to have weighed 70 tons, measured two stories tall and extended the length of a basketball court.

Reconciliation Week is where we celebrate Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and promote reconciliation 🖤💛❤️

Occurring annually from 27 May to 3 June, these dates commemorate two significant milestones in the Australian reconciliation journey—starting with the successful 1967 referendum, when more than 90% of Australian voters chose ‘Yes’ to count Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the census. The week ends on the anniversary of Australia’s High Court Mano decision.

2021 marks almost three decades of Australia’s [email protected] reconciliation process and incorporates the theme ‘More than a Word’ — urging those that are involved in the reconciliation movement to be braver and engage in more impactful action

Although the pandemic means we have been unable to host a public Anzac Day service this year, in the spirit of both Anzac Day and the Mateship between Australia and the US, Consul-General David Bushby joined with Major-General Jackson of the Illinois National Guard today, to remember and honour the service and sacrifice that our defence men and women have made and continue to make.

We look forward to joining with our colleagues from New Zealand and Turkey at a public service in 2022.’

Lest we forget.

A new $ 2 coin has been released by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate Indigenous Australians who have served in the military. The new design was unveiled in Canberra overnight by Aboriginal artist and Kalkadoon woman Chern’ee Sutton and Royal Australian Mint CEO Leigh Gordon. On the coin, a series of symbols depict soldiers leaving their communities and going to war, before a boomerang and a foot print depict personnel returning home and “stepping back onto their land”.

“I do hope people will get the coin in their change...and when they see it they’ll reflect on the sacrifices that were made,” said Ms Sutton.

The coin will be released in the coming weeks ahead of Anzac Day. For more information check out https://www.abc.net.au/.../mint-releases-coin.../100039190
