Dear friends of the Hyde Park Free Theater!

We have not left or abandoned you! We just had to regroup after losing our support from Top Studios! We are here with a strong vision for the future, come by and see us tonight or tomorrow at the Indie City book fair to see where we are headed and our new booklet shelving by Kevin Reiswig!!

If you have have participated in one of our exhibitions, been inspired by the art shown, met some interesting people with whom you have developed a friendship or collaboration, bought something amazing or needed at our thrift, made something great with your kids or learned a new skill, enjoyed a concert or just had a nice time at any of our events or spaces, and want independent programming, exhibits and events to keep happening here on the south side, please consider donating to our Indiegogo campaign now!

We need to raise $15,000 to cover overhead for this beautiful storefront after we lost our funding. It's fast, easy, you get perks like a cool t-shirt and poster designed by Kione Konchi, access to shared studio space, a great after school program for the upcoming year, an independent animation festival, experimental music programming and all kinds of upcoming classes, workshops and events for all ages.
All contributions are appreciated!

Thank you for your continued support!
Laura and all of us at SHoP

SHANDY BREAK
Cultural ReProducers + SHoP
Hyde Park Free Theater
1448 E 57th Street, Hyde Park

Enjoy some great music, an ice-cold shandy (or a lemonade) and the chance to learn how to breakdance through this interactive all-ages workshop. Interdisciplinary artist and SHoP organizer Laura Shaeffer joins forces with Jonathan St. Clair and the Stick and Move Youth Crew to host this event at the Hyde Park Free Theater, the newest art space on Chicago’s South side. Whether you’re five or fifty-five, enjoy learning and teaching one another new moves followed by a performance by the Youth Crew. This event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5 per person, or whatever you can contribute.

Looking for an amazing artist-run summer camp for your kids? Follow the links and meet the artists to learn more about Stick and Move Youth Crew and their Summer Intensive Dance Camp and Laura Shaeffer's upcoming Summer SHoP Camp.

Dear all, Please submit possible cover photos for the Hyde Park Free Theater, anything interesting happening on the south side involving people! This last one I posted is the group of Chinese Elders who dance in the Nichols Park every day at 9 am, you can join them, they welcome you! They now garden at the little DIY learning garden that Op Shop set up years ago. Now we are going to make it into a Chinese-English Learning garden. Signs in both languages to come, check it out behind the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club.

Edra Soto will host Happy Hours on the 29th and is exited and looking forward to bringing some of her traditions to the Antiquarian.

Edra Soto will create a tasting comprised of appetizers that she used to find at social gatherings or parties while growing up in Puerto Rico during the 80's era.
These items form part of the hybridized diet strongly influenced by mainstream American culture.
Politically incorrect, genetically engineered, unpronounceable, romanticized processed foods that became paramount of the cultural patrimony of the island.
Simultaneously, a hit-parade selection of mainstream American music, highly influential to the generation of this era.
Adventurous eaters and listeners welcomed!

Friday Night Happy Hour Drinks
1448 E 57th St Chicago, IL 60637

Please join me (as your host), during your Friday happy hour/ early pregame/ post-work/post time-discipline schedule for Margaritas with Chips and Salsa. Come unwind, relax, find leisure, catch-up or talk for a bit.

The entire discography of Stoner/Desert Rock band Kyuss will be playing during the whole event, hence the title “Oasis.”

A proposed donation of $3 per drink would be greatly appreciated, in order to cover costs.

Generous curation, organization and support of this art piece has been provided by Laura Shaeffer of The Southside Hub of Production

History of the drink

“The exact origin and inventor of the margarita is unknown.[6]”

One example (of many)
“The first known publication of a margarita recipe was in the December 1953 issue of Esquire, with a recipe calling for an ounce of tequila, a dash of triple sec and the juice of half a lime or lemon. A recipe for a tequila-based cocktail first appeared in the 1930 book My New Cocktail Book by G.F. Steele. Without noting a specific recipe or inventor, a drink called the Tequila Daisy was mentioned in the Syracuse Herald as early as 1936. Margarita is Spanish for Daisy, which is a nickname for Margaret.[16]”
