Policy and Change.... not Thoughts and Prayers.

Friends, we need to talk. Our hearts are broken by the tragic, hate-fueled terrorist attacks in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. At least 31 parents, neighbors, friends, and family members have been senselessly killed, and this is just from the past few days. There have been over 250 mass shootings in the United States alone in 2019. So many of these killings are undeniably fueled by xenophobia, white supremacy, and the racist rhetoric by those in power. We are in solidarity with the victims, their families, and the impacted communities.

We are also here for you. Please take care of yourself, your loved ones, and please speak out on gun violence and hateful, violent ideologies. And let our community know about it!

We cannot have the green and peaceful future we all hope for without confronting gun violence, actively dismantling white supremacy wherever it exists, and keeping deadly assault weapons out of the hands of white supremacists. Our lives depend on it.

So finally, please check out the following amazing groups working to end gun violence: Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Everytown for Gun Safety, Million Hoodies Movement for Justice, March For Our Lives

And these groups challenging the power of white supremacy: MediaJustice, National Hispanic Media Coalition, Color Of Change and the Southern Poverty Law Center

Mexican activist shot dead before vote on pipeline he opposed

"...A Mexican environmental activist has been murdered before a referendum on a controversial thermal-electric plant and pipeline that he opposed. Samir Flores Soberanes, an indigenous Náhuatl, was killed in his home during the early hours of Wednesday in the town of Amilcingo in Morelos state, 80 miles south of Mexico City. He was a human rights activist, producer for a community radio station and long-time opponent of the Proyecto Integral Morelos (the integral project for Morelos) – which includes the plant and pipeline. Mexican media reported that Flores had been shot twice in the head by unknown assailants..."

'Whoever You Are, Wherever You Are, We Need You': 15-Year-Old Greta Thunberg Calls for Global Climate Strike

Big props to 15-year old Greta Thunberg from Sweden for standing up to the world’s political “leaders” at the COP24 in Poland. After accusing the entire political contingency of acting like children, she continues on to ask the rest of the world to join her in the fight for our planet because the people we elected to do so have failed miserably in this regard. 🌎✌🏼🌲💧

"Science has clearly told us that we need to act now to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming," the young climate activist says in calling for day of action on Friday

We get out in communities to talk about the challenges facing our planet, what Greenpeace is going to do about it, and how millions of people can influence change. Will you join us??

Federal Court of Appeal quashes construction approvals for Trans Mountain, leaving project in limbo | CBC News

Our national campaign, centered around pipeline opposition (specifically tar sands oil projects) while standing in solidarity with indigenous movements, had a significant victory this morning as the Federal Court of Appeals nullified the certificate approving construction and operation of the $7.4 billion Trans Mountain expansion project.

March for Our Lives Chicago

March for Our Lives Chicago

We apologize for confusion and communication issues in regards to the location and route for March for Our Lives Chicago. As student organizers, along with marching for our lives and the lives of our peers, we are also young people who face daily pressures of school, homework, extracurriculars, chores, and even economic pressures at home. We are committed to lifting our voices and mobilizing fellow young people, students and families to take a stand against gun violence in all of our communities.

With that being said, we have submitted applications for permits for our March to be held at Union Park on March 24th, 2018. Union Park is located at 1501 W Randolph St, and is accessible by bus (77, X9, 9, X49, 49, 66), train (blue, pink or green line), car, or rideshare (Lyft will be offering free rides for attendees).

We chose Union Park over other locations in Downtown Chicago not only for size and accessibility, but because it is essential for us to stand with all communities that have been affected by gun violence. Union Park is in a family-friendly community environment, emblematic of the different issues Chicago faces. We want our rally and march to be the most intersectional and wide-reaching event in gun reform history. Chicago Public Schools has also used Union Park as a rallying place to host some of their Chicago Youth Service Days and peace rally.

For those who are concerned for safety and about coming to a neighborhood that is not the loop, our answer to this concern is that these are our neighborhoods, communities, and children we are marching for. We are committed to ensuring that this movement is to protect students in schools and communities everywhere -- from Parkland to the South and West sides of Chicago. A life lost to gun violence is a life, too many. Our motto has been and will continue to be: In Chicago We March for Our Lives Everyday.

In Solidarity,

Your fellow Marchers

BREAKING: Today, two years after first campaigning to ban microbeads, we welcome the great news that rinse-off cosmetic products can no longer be manufactured using microbeads in the UK!

Globally this is one of the strongest bans in force and a step in the right direction to tackle the 12 million tonnes of plastic entering our oceans every year. The government is considering extending the ban to include "leave on" products like lotions, sun creams and make up as well as abrasive cleaning products.

From the Chicago Greens Thanksgiving Greetings to the Natural World Giving thanks is a longstanding and central tradition among most Native groups that is still practiced today. The First Thanksgiving is often portrayed as a friendly harvest festival where Pilgrims and generic, nameless "Indians" came together to eat and give thanks. In reality, the assembly of the Wampanoag Peoples and the English settlers in 1621 had much more to do with political alliances and a pursuit of peace.
Saturday, Nov 20th at 6:00 PM CT. College of Complexes Coalition for the National Infrastructure Bank (NIB) $5 Trillion, 25 Million Jobs Meeting #3,643 NIB IS an organization of individuals and groups dedicated to a common purpose: To get legislation enacted by the US Congress that creates a $5 Trillion National Infrastructure Bank. Our proposed $5 trillion Bank would provide funding for a nationwide network of high-speed rail, rebuilding thousands of bridges and tunnels, repairing and upgrading tens of thousands of miles of roads, constructing large-scale water projects to provide clean, fresh water for drinking and irrigation, upgrading our electricity generating capacity as well as the transmission network, building broadband internet access, and schools and hospitals. In addition, it will provide sufficient funding to finally realize new technologies. These projects would create more than 25 million new, good-paying industrial American jobs. In short, the NIB would change the life of every single person in America, and impact people and events worldwide. All meetings open to the public.
