The 2020 Dorothy Brown Second Chance Expungement Summit Goes Virtual with an online Kick-Off presentation on Saturday, August 1, 2020, from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Pre-registration is required for the Expungement Summit at www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/SecondChance. Following the Kick-Off presentation, ONLY REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS will be contacted by volunteer attorneys for consultations on preparing and filing petitions for expungement and sealing. The 2019 Second Chance Expungement Summit, held June 1, 2019, at Westinghouse College Prep on Chicago's westside, was a major success. The Summit's new, advance registration process was used by 592 individuals. More than 735 people attended the Summit and petitions were filed to expunge 1,323 cases, and to seal 649 cases. Clerk Brown's 2019 Second Chance Expungement Summit was a massive collaborative effort with Cabrini Green Legal Aid, Get Cleared, Chicago, the Cook County Public Defender, Chicago Police Dept., Illinois Prisoner Review, Safer Foundation, Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Cook County Juvenile Probation Department, city and county elected officials, several media outlets, and many governmental, social service, healthcare, and religious organizations. Everyone worked together to provide attendees with the services they need to handle background issues and access available resources to get their lives back on track.
REMEMBER, the 2019 Second Chance Expungement Summit will be held this Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Westinghouse College Prep, 3223 W. Franklin Blvd. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. Registered participants can file for expungement and/or sealing on site. BRING YOUR REGISTRATION RECEIPT! Summit exhibitors will provide information about support services and more. Plan to attend the Second Chance Expungement Summit to learn about the legal processes available to help individuals get their lives back on track.

Five local churches are hosting Second Chance Expungement Summit Registration Sundays on May 19 & 26. Bring your RAP sheet or Criminal History Record to any one of these churches this Sunday or next Sunday and you will be assisted with scanning and uploading these documents to register for the Summit. More than 1,100 Attend Clerk Dorothy Brown's 14th Successful Second Chance Expungement Summit at Kennedy-King College on June 2nd
The 2018 Second Chance Expungement Summit at Kennedy-King College, 6343 S. Halsted St., was attended by more than 1,100 individuals who are committed to starting the process of clearing criminal records from their backgrounds and increase their employment options. Clerk Brown led a panel of legal and justice system experts, community leaders and elected officials who are dedicated to helping people get a second chance. Cabrini Green Legal Aid, Safer Foundation, volunteer attorneys, judges, jobs and job-training providers, and more than 40 information and support service providers convened on site to offer assistance in various capacities to all of the attendees. Hundreds of expungements and sealing petitions were filed. All 2018 Expungement Summit participants that were not fully processed on site will still receive free legal assistance.
The last 2018 Expungement Summit customer had his petition successfully filed by 9 p.m., on June 2, at Kennedy-King College. Clerk Brown is there to congratulate him on his commitment to enhancing his life’s opportunities.
The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County thanks all participants who attended the 2018 Second Chance Expungement Summit at Kennedy-King College on June 2nd, to start the process of changing their life circumstances. Much appreciation to Kennedy-King College President Craig Lynch and his outstanding staff, and to Cabrini Green Legal Aid, and the volunteer attorneys, judges, volunteers, and Clerk’s Office staff that worked the summit. The new sealing law generated a huge turnout of attendees and the Clerk’s Office wants individuals who were not fully processed on site to know that they will still receive FREE legal assistance. They will soon receive information on next steps. Again, thanks to all for their participation in this important community service.
