Raoul: Rauner’s veto of Crosscheck legislation politically motivated

Illinois residents deserve a governor who will act in their best interest rather than blindly following a partisan agenda. Despite the governor’s actions today, I remain committed to my long record of fighting for voting rights in our state.

My statement regarding Governor Rauner's veto of SB1657:

"It’s unconscionable for the governor to take this action when gun violence continues to plague communities across our state."

This is a personal issue for me. I have experienced gun violence just outside my front door on multiple occasions while my children were home, and I have close friends who lost children to gun violence within blocks of my home.

We license all sorts of professions: physicians, lawyers, pharmacists – even dog groomers and barbers. It’s not an unreasonable request to license firearm dealers. The vast majority of voters support this measure on a bipartisan basis, and the governor turned his back on all of them today."

Morning Spin: Illinois election officials won't pass along voter data for now

The State Board of Elections seems to be taking our concerns about the security of Crosscheck seriously and did not send voter data to the program as scheduled yesterday. We must continue to work to protect voter rights and security in our state.

State Senator Kwame Raoul on the purpose of the repeat gun offender bill

I joined John Williams with WGN Radio to talk about how my repeat gun offenders bill, which was recently signed into law, helps address the unacceptable levels of gun violence in Chicago.

The Illinois Senate continues working on a bipartisan balanced budget. But Governor Rauner’s meddling slowed progress.

Meanwhile, Governor Rauner’s cabinet members have yet to identify any budget cuts and can’t find any fraud, waste or abuse in state government spending.

However, recent budget hearings revealed millions of dollars in Rauner administration executive bonuses, secretive lease deals and fast-tracked patronage hiring. We know Illinoisans have a lot of questions for Governor Rauner and his administration.

So, as an elected representative, I'm ready to help you get your questions answered.

Fill out the below form to share your questions with me, and I'll share them with the governor.

Raoul measure targeting repeat gun offenders passes Senate

Today, the Senate approved my measure targeting repeat gun offenders and providing comprehensive criminal justice reform for low-risk offenders. No one bill can solve our gun violence problem, but if this bill saves even one life, it will be a success.
