Of the many things our Lori did, one of them was championing and acknowledging heroes of the LGBTQ community. When dear friend, q***r writer and thinker Jon-Henri Damski passed away, Lori created the annual Jon-Henri Award to recognize the pivotal accomplishments to Chicago's LGBTQ community.

Gary G. Chichester is all that and more. Did you know that "Gary Chichester’s name is on the permit for the first official Pride Parade in the world, which took place in Chicago in June 1971? He and his homemade flag haven’t missed a Pride Parade since."

Pride Month 2026 🏳️‍🌈

Each year Sidetrack throws a party to celebrate their anniversary, and this year is the 44th! And that means a collection paper products and toiletries for Groceryland clients. Lori knew EBT doesn't cover these items, so she rallied the community to do collections throughout the year.

This scrumptious work of art is of course a masterpiece from Taste of Heaven, Lori's favorite flavor, The Jeanean. Taste of Heaven cakes have been the centerpiece of Lori's celebrations for decades - her own, her friends, and of course, the volunteers and clients.

Taste of Heaven started as a bakery supply business in 1989; the bakery and cafe initially o9pened on Foster Avenue in 1994, and relocated to Clark Street in 2004. They had stopped doing cakes to order, while still featuring them for sale by slice. But for Lori, owner Dan McCauley always said yes, we love him!

Stop by this Andersonville treasure for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or a home-baked sweet treat, and leave a message of thanks to Dan for all he has done for our gal and the community through the years!
