We are currently seeking community members who already know and have established relationships with many of our guests to volunteer during regular office hours.

These volunteers play an important role in helping us stay connected to the people we serve while providing a familiar and welcoming presence.

If you're interested in learning more, please send us a direct message. Thank you for continuing to show up for our community.

May is , and at Safe Space, we see firsthand how deeply mental wellness and housing security are connected.

Right here in Chico, an estimated 38% of our unhoused neighbors live with mental health challenges. Across Butte County, 46% are managing compounding hurdles like mental health conditions, chronic physical illness, or substance use.

Behind every statistic is a human being who deserves safety, dignity, and support. The trauma of homelessness makes managing a mental health condition incredibly difficult without a safe, stable environment to heal.

This month let’s break the stigma and extend a helping hand. Support our mission to provide a secure haven and connect our guests with the vital mental health resources they need. 💚

To know her is to love her, our sweet Colleen and her little dog, Missy. They’ve been with us through many seasons, weathering every storm along the way. Colleen is a friend to all and a mother figure to many.
This past month, everything shifted for her in the best way. Through our rapid rehousing funds, she moved into her new home in Paradise, where she now has cozy chairs, a full bed, and her beautiful art hanging proudly on the walls.
We couldn’t be more excited for her as she begins this new chapter. ❤️

Community ask- She is still sleeping on an air mattress so if anyone has an extra bed that they need to part with we’ll happily take it off your hands!

A huge thank you to Iverson for having us at their Wellness Fair! We had the opportunity to connect with so many incredible people, build meaningful relationships, and bond with both community members who could utilize our services AND organizations we’re excited to partner with. We’re grateful for the chance to work together in strengthening and bettering our community.

Our drop-in hours and outreach program have been a huge success, and we’re so grateful for the support from our community.

Soon, we’ll be sharing volunteer sign-ups for those who’d like to help during drop-in hours. In the meantime, we’re currently looking for meal providers.

During morning drop-in hours, folks can stop by for a quick bite, shop our clothing racks, and pick up other essentials they may need.

In the afternoons, we bring food directly to community members who aren’t able to make it to our office.

Thanks to the generosity of the food bank, we’ve been able to hand out some goods, but we are still in need of prepared meals.

If you’d like to help, we would be so appreciative.

If supplies are a concern, we’re happy to help with that too! We currently have a well stocked meat freezer, potatoes, sauces, noodles, rice, and more available for meal preparation.

And of course, if you have a personal need for groceries, don’t hesitate to stop by!

Drop-off hours for prepared meals are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The link to sign up as a meal provider is in our bio 💖

Earlier this month, our Interim Executive Director Jessika and one of our amazing Case Managers, Tiffany, took a little break from the office to support .1fm during their pledge drive.

We’re so grateful to be included in community events like this and proud to support the spaces that keep our community connected. Local radio matters, and we’re always happy to do what we can to help keep it on the air.

Thank you, KZFR, for all you do for our community!
