Last weeks Chico Sunshine Rotary meeting (8/13/2026)

Always a great day when Sierra Nevada Brewery stops by! Huge thanks to Charlie Kyle for joining us at Thursday's meeting, walking us through the history of Sierra Nevada Brewery, and sticking around for a fantastic Q&A!

Last weeks meeting 8/6/2026 was with Butte County
Sheriff Kory Honea! From river safety tips to Jiu-Jitsu and what it's really like patrolling in 100° heat, he answered it all. We were proud to hear the First Responder Kits we supported are now standard statewide — and how the 1% tax is helping with staffing and mental health resources.
Thank you for your service and for joining us, Sheriff!

Camp Royal was the star of the show in last weeks meeting (07/31/26)

Larry G introduced our three amazing attendees - Emerson, Sierra, and Caylin - who all shared that it was one of the best weeks of their lives. No phones, real connection, and 70 new friends.

Lain Hensley from Odyssey Teams reminded us why it works: Camp Royal creates a space where young leaders are supported to take risks and step up

This Thursday mornings guest speaker was our district governor, Woody Fridae.

A former public-school educator with 38 years of service, Woody has also served his community as a Winters City Council member and Mayor. A Rotarian for more than 20 years, he now devotes his time to local and international service, travel, writing, and finding new ways to say yes to worthwhile causes. Woody emphasized the theme for Rotary District 5160 this year, "From Strength to Strength," reflecting Rotary's evolution into a "people of action" organization.

Pictured is our our current President Mark Murgia and Dan Bay, who was recognized as an outstanding member of our club.

From $8 Days to a Local Empire: The Mi Taquito Grill Story 🌮

We had the pleasure of hosting club member Jose Hernandez, the force behind Mi Taquito Grill, at our club meeting last week! Jose shared his family’s incredible journey—from his father building a taqueria empire in Tijuana to becoming the very first food truck in Paradise.
The road wasn’t always easy. Jose spoke about the early days of "shakedowns" in Mexico and the struggle of $8.00 days when the local community was still warming up to food truck culture. But perseverance paid off. Despite the devastation of the Camp Fire, they pushed forward, opening their Shasta and Esplanade location in 2020.
What’s next for Mi Taquito?
• CSU Chico: They are now the exclusive Mexican food provider on campus (check them out in the BMU!).
• Coming Soon: A brand-new restaurant at 8th and Cherry is slated to open this June!
• Pro Tip: During our Q&A, Jose named the Tuesday Al Pastor as their most unique, "must-try" item.
Thanks for sharing your story, Jose!
