Mainers giving staggering amounts of 'trash' to donation sites and thrift stores

This has also been a problem when the swap shop was open.

Spring cleaning is hitting differently this year, Mainers have found. As they begin to emerge from a year of isolation, one year after the pandemic shut down the flow of their communities, Mainers are getting rid of a staggering amount of stuff. The problem is no one knows what to do with it. The sh...

A few updates:
For those concerned about possible "homeless" in the forest, it was a hoax, but sadly, there has been some issues with more damaged items in the forest in the last month. Trail cameras have been installed and future issues will be turned over to the town officer, if necessary.

Our gnome leprechauns have morphed into gnome bunnies - MANY thanks to the forest friends for their creative and fun contribution to the forest.

Dog owners, PLEASE clean up after your pets! Pet waste on the trails is a health and safety hazard and no one wants to step in dog poop. If you won't clean up, then do not bring your pet to the forest.

As you are walking the trails this spring, anyone can help to clear off sticks and branches to clear the trails from debris.

We hope to have a community trail work day in May. Stay tuned for a date announcement. If you enjoy the trails, your help to maintain them would be greatly appreciated by the volunteers who work hard to maintain this area for all to enjoy. All skill levels are welcome.

While we work on the launch of Emergency Rental Assistance Program we want to address questions about the program. Although we do not have a launch date yet, we have confirmed several program details that can help tenants and landlords gather what they need to apply when the program opens: mainehousing.org/covidrent

Have you heard about the Domino Effect Cereal Box challenge? Erskine Academy was challenged by Cony High school to collect over 1,000 boxes of cereal, a much-needed item at our local food pantries. Since Erskine has recently gone into a red designation, but still wants to meet the Challenge, we are taking the show on the road. Erskine students will be at China School from 1-2 Saturday, March 27th! This will be safe, with no contact, so feel free to drop boxes (or financial donations) in our shuttle yourself. Once collected, the cereal will be divided up amongst all of our local food pantries. Come on out and see how great it feels to help our community.
Is the free-for-the-taking building at the transfer station still closed?
Join us to help China families for Christmas! Due to COVID-19 we are trying to make shopping easier for those who wish to help! Let’s make this year Very Merry for everyone!
My hat is off the the Town of China on Election Day! Public Works did a great job on the roads, and the Polls were efficient and well managed. Nice job !!! 🐴
I wish the campaign staffers would not put signs on property without permission. I just removed one from in front of my property.
In the latest Town of China News it says mixed paper will go to the hopper. Does that also include newspapers, magazines and paperback books?
The Town Office is currently open, but we have limited services. Due to the power outage, and no internet, we are only accepting cash and checks at this time.
With the prolonged closure of the town office on Saturdays seemingly not ending anytime soon, have the powers that be given any thought of remaining open at least one day until 5 pm? Not everyone can get out of work early enough to accommodate a sweeeet 4 pm closing. Or even better, am I wrong in assuming Saturdays are not coming back in the near future. Thank you.
Is the transfer station open Friday and closed Saturday for the 4th?
Can anyone tell me what the rules are for vehicle inspections at this time?I have heard something about them needing to be done by mid July. Is this true? What date?
Huge request going out to the folks who handle the mowing on the side of our roads...the Hanson Road needs to be mowed!!! I almost got t-boned coming out of a driveway this morning. I was cautiously leaving the driveway and by the time I could see the road or vehicle it was just about too late. I slammed on my breaks and they swerved around me but it could have been terrible. There are so many blind driveways on that road. Please, please send someone to mow!
