Who-who? 30 species were counted during our annual Memorial Day Bird Walk at Spring Coulee Farm despite the drought and temperatures that reached into the 80s. The list includes 4 new species tho many of the regulars were not seen.

Not a brick, not a gum ball, the big baby worked. My first Rågbröd, a Danish Rye. True to the spirit of a special rye baker, we tinkered with the recipe, substitute an ingredient, made timing mistakes and yet it worked. ... As with most things, Just do it!

This big baby is my first ever Ragbrot, now in the oven. Will it be a door stop or the recepient of stinky cheese? ... 30 more minutes and 2 days of waiting will tell.

I milled Gazelle Rye in 3 different degrees of coarseness for this project: rye chops, pumpernickel, and regular whole grain flour.

Khorasan is an ancient grain and a relative of durum. It has a lovely yellow hue and mildly nutty flavor. We combine khorasan and spelt in our blend, Old & Ancient, which is one of our most versatile flours.

This crop of khorasan had a lot of barley and thistle growing in the field, so it was a challenge to clean the grain. The color sorter did the job. 🌾
