The Board of Revision can be described as quasi-judicial, but what does that mean? The Board consists of three members (The Auditor, Treasurer, and the President of the Board of Commissioners or their representatives) who hold hearings, review evidence, and make decisions, similar to a court but completely separate from our county’s courts. Like a judge, Board designees must make decisions based on the evidence presented, not their own personal opinion of right and wrong (or more accurately in this context, accurate or inaccurate).

In preparation for the next Board of Revision season, our Auditor’s Office team is conducting mock hearings so our on-staff appraisers can practice how to accurately present evidence to the Board and our clerks can review how to administer the hearings. This training ensures our team stays qualified and prepared to administer a fair and efficient complaint process.

The Hamilton County Auditor's Office, under the leadership of Auditor Jessica E. Miranda, invites 4th grade students to participate in a special essay competition designed to celebrate our beloved canine companions and promote responsible pet ownership! Following over 80 submissions in our inaugural contest last year, we are thrilled to bring back the Hamilton County "Top Dog" Essay Contest!

In addition to dog licensing being a mandatory requirement under State of Ohio law, licenses help ensure the safety and well-being of dogs across our county by providing identification, facilitating their return if lost, and supporting local animal welfare efforts. To help spread this vital message, we are excited to continue this fun and engaging initiative!

Students can write about their own dog, a neighbor's dog, or even a dog they've read about! They are also welcome to include a picture or drawing of their fur best friend with their submission.

All essays for consideration for the Hamilton County Top Dog Award should be submitted to [email protected] by October 23rd.

Help us name our Weights & Measures Truck!

The County Auditor is required by Ohio law to inspect all commercial devices used in retail trade for weighing or measuring. Our Weights & Measures Team inspects the fuel at every gas pump in Hamilton County (over 6,000)! In order to do this important work, the team drives official office trucks that carry the many supplies necessary to ensure that each pump is dispensing the correct amount of fuel.

Our team has narrowed the name of the truck down to three: Gasolina, Graham, and Miles. The names are in the comments below. Please "like" the one that is your favorite! We will announce the winning name sometime in September!

Hamilton County Auditor Jessica Miranda and members of our Finance Team recently met with school treasurers from Hamilton, Butler, and Clermont Counties.

Today's Focus: Hamilton County's First Auditor

Originally from Pennsylvania, John Thomas Jones served as the First Hamilton County Auditor from 1825 to 1829, which means that he was the auditor during our nation's 50th anniversary. Following his time as the auditor, he was the Clerk for the City of Cincinnati.
