Please note that this does not mean taking alternative local roads around the closure, rather, stay home as the interstate closure begins at 3 pm.

🚨SUNDAY, MARCH 15 ROAD CLOSURES!🚨Make plans for these closures happening this afternoon. The combination of earlier rain on freezing pavements, heavy snow, and blizzard/whiteout conditions will make many roadways impassable.

🚫2 PM - Saylorville Lake Mile Long Bridge/IA 415

🚫3 PM - I-35 North Ames/U.S. 30 to the Minnesota Border both NB/SB lanes.

Iowa DOT and ISP do not advise travelers to seek alternate non-freeway routes, as these are also likely to be hazardous and have very limited access to shelter and traveler services. Travelers should seek shelter and services in larger cities such as Clear Lake / Mason City, Ames, Des Moines, and Sioux City.

A hazard mitigation plan is a community document that assesses various local risks and outlines strategies to help mitigate the impact of hazards on people and property. As of October 16th, 2025 at 8 am the Wright County burn ban has been lifted.

CGD High School will host a comprehensive casualty training this Saturday, October 4th, as part of a county-wide emergency drill. This important exercise will run from 8:00am to noon and involves multiple first responder agencies.

Please note, this is only a training session. We ask that community members avoid the area during the drill so emergency personnel can conduct their work safely and effectively.

Due to the conditions being so dry, the Wright County Fire Departments have asked there be a burn ban put in place for Wright County. This goes into effect October 4th, 2025 at 12:00 am.
