While it made sense to the administration and the council members, because it was literally the exact process to follow and your elected government officials worked the way it should, there have been continued questions about a topic that we as the Council already tabled (aka removed). I am proud to share this statement from Mayor Angel Albanese providing more detail and the clarity to our citizens.
If you know me at all, you know I often encourage everyone to go to the organic source. Don’t tell me what a speech said, I’ll watch the speech. Don’t tell me how a hearing went, I need to watch it myself. I can’t stress enough… this applies to all your consumption of news… don’t let someone tell you their opinion of what is happening, go to the organic source! Your big beautiful brain is capable and I love to know what’s happening in there! Promise!
It is also important to recognize the context of some of the public concerns I have received. I feel badly, as much of it came from social media pages that make money off engagement….and the commentary featured in the irresponsible (in my personal opinion only) news coverage was disappointing, and erroneous. 🙂
While everyone has the right to express their opinions, residents should understand that political viewpoints are naturally part of the public conversation during an election season and should be viewed or listened to through that lens or filter.
Every Council meeting is open to the public, live streamed on TV and YouTube, agendas are published in advance, and residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and speak during the public comment portions of the meeting. Of course, as many of you have seen, whether it’s by email or phone calls, I know I am not alone when I say my experience is that many questions or concerns are never made to wait for the next meeting, but attended to most expediently. I am proud of that and it is another reason Clark is special!
Finally, it is important to remember that introducing an ordinance is not the same as adopting one. The introduction begins the public legislative process. When concerns are identified, it is appropriate for elected officials to pause, gather additional information, and reconsider the proposal before taking any final action. That is exactly what occurred here.
In sum…everything worked exactly as it should. That is not a failure. It is the process working exactly as it is intended. I thank you for all of the phone calls, messages, and conversations of support, and especially trust, and look forward to continuing to earn that every day!
