Over the past few months we have been polishing our skills on fire suppression and best practices for searching and removal of fire victims. This week we brought it all together for a live fire burn scenario with working fire and 2 victims down inside the structure. Objectives and skills performed were command presence, hose deploying, fire suppression, primary search along with all crews opting to VES (Vent Enter Search) finding their second victim in a bedroom. Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the Line of Duty Death of Captain Willie Ratliff. We honor his service, sacrifice, and dedication. Never forgotten

Captain Willie Ratliff, 66
Clarksdale Fire Department. Clarksdale, MS
Captain Ratliff was found dead in the firehouse of an apparent heart attack. He was two shifts away from retirement, and had worked for the city from more than four decades. "Willie was never sick, and nobody remembers him ever missing a single shift. He was a role-model firefighter," Chief Douglas said. "He was 66 years old, and he fought fire last week like he did 25 years ago."

This weeks challenge each shift advanced a 2.5” hose line into a multi-story structure. Realistic training, real results. Competence and confidence being built on the training ground. Our crews make the “inchworm” look like a cake walk.

Firefighter-NFPA 1001 Certification is a rigorous 7-week program that tests a firefighter’s physical and mental abilities. Throughout the course, they develop critical skills each week, building the foundation to become competent and confident firefighters.
