Is civilian reintegration really a thing? Or will we always be Veterans and never truly civilians? Is it just semantics or an important distinction? Does this distinction hinder us or set us apart positively?

We can learn a lot from this. Just because we have damage doesn't mean we should be discarded. The repairs we make can be beautiful, maybe even more beautiful than before.

After talking with a great American Veteran this morning I thought it'd be good to post again about the motivation for this page and the Well Adjusted Veterans' Lounge group. In 2011 I began the Army Master of Social Work Program and in 2013 the Army Social Work Internship Program. I was medically retired in 2018 after 16 years of total service. Throughout this time and through my own transition I became more acutely aware of the stigma around Veterans, Veteran's mental health, and Veteran's reintegration. With only 1% of the population having served in the GWOT era the country is much less informed on the Veteran world, mainly getting info from news media and social media; when these sources paint us negatively that's how we're seen. On top of that many of us embrace the self-deprecation. The biggest self-deprecating group has almost 100k members! The goal is to grow this group and page large enough to subvert that seemingly prevailing idea. Please invite any friend or family member that is a Veteran, a Veteran family member, Veteran adjacent, or just wants to support and better understand us. Thank you for reading my rambling.

Turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. Sure I'm pretty banged up now but it made me into who I am today and provides for my family. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. For my kids anything is worth it.
