June is National Reunification Month. This month we celebrate families who successfully overcome challenges to reunite and those who have supported them in their reunification journey. 🏠✨
Sometimes those journeys take time.

A boy had been placed with his grandparents in a different state who became his permanent guardians. In late 2024, they came back to Florida. At the same time, the boy’s father started working hard to be reunified with son so that he could come live with him and a younger half sibling.

With unwavering dedication, the father traveled monthly with the child’s younger sister to maintain and strengthen their sibling bond. The child’s Child Advocate Manager Supervisor Melissa Soler and Guardian ad Litem Volunteer Marcy Rose provided support as the father dedicated himself to completing all his tasks. The father took an active role in his son’s life, including addressing educational and behavioral challenges the boy faced. Earlier this year, the hard work paid off and they were reunified.

Even after reunification, Melissa and Marcy continued to support them in their journey. When educational challenges arose, the father reached out for assistance and Melissa advocated for the family during the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting, helping secure adjustments that allowed the child to thrive. Today, the child is doing better in school and with his behavior and even earned a perfect score on a standardized test!

This story is a powerful reminder of the healing that reunification can bring and the importance of preserving family and sibling bonds. 💙

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Often, children who are abused, neglected, or abandoned face significant hurdles, including mental health challenges. Consistent, caring adults in their lives help them know they are not alone and support access to the services they need to promote healing.

It is a time to focus on providing education and supporting those with mental health conditions. One of the most important tools is connection—connection to resources, to community, and to a network of support.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month.

Every day, children across Florida who have experienced abuse, abandonment, or neglect rely on caring adults to help support them through difficult circumstances. Foster families play an important role in providing stability and a safe place during this time.

Child welfare involves many individuals and organizations, each with a distinct role in the process. Throughout it, the focus remains on helping children navigate challenging circumstances and move toward safe, stable, and permanent outcomes.

The Florida Guardian ad Litem Office extends its gratitude to those who step forward to support children in care and remains committed to representing their legal interests both in court and in the community.

What a fun and informative day meeting and connecting with AARP members and vendors at the AARP Caregiver Expo! Our Volunteer Recruiter Amanda Mantaporn had a great time sharing how the Florida Guardian ad Litem Office makes a difference in the lives of Florida’s most vulnerable children and how community members can get involved.

We were especially excited to receive a visit from Larnelle Scott, our former Volunteer Recruiter! Thank you for your continued dedication to making a difference in the lives of children we represent!

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Throughout the month, pinwheel gardens have appeared across our communities. These pinwheels serve as a visible reminder of our shared commitment to strengthening families and creating safe, healthy environments where children can thrive. They are symbols of hope.

Each day, the Florida Guardian ad Litem Office works to support, advocate for and represent the legal interests of children who have experienced abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Children with Guardians ad Litem are less likely to re-enter the child welfare system and more likely to achieve a safe, permanent home.

While April is coming to a close, our commitment does not end. The work to support children and strengthen communities continues every day.
