One more auction item for Saturday night. Ring Video Doorbell. This replaces your doorbell with a door bell that has a built in video camera. When some one comes to your door and rings the doorbell, it will pop up on your smart phone and show you who is at the door whether you are home are half way across country. This was donated by Hewlett Office Systems and includes installation. Come out Saturday night and bid on the Ring and be the envy of your neighborhood.

One of the auction items that has been donated for our banquet Saturday night, is an Icehole cooler - 35 Quart size. This is a very nice cooler. Big thanks to Debe and Dane Owens for donating this item. Come to our event Saturday night for a chance to own this little jewel.

Convention of States

With all that has been going on in Washington DC over the past month, it is time for the citizens to take back control of our country. I would encourage everyone to visit www.conventionofstates.com and educate yourself as to what the states can do to take back our country. We need to be encouraging our state legislators to get on board.

I want to thank everyone for your support through out the campaign. It was a hard fought campaign and I congratulate Judge Roger Harmon on winning another term.

Voter turnout in Johnson County appears to be low this morning compared to what we saw with the early voting. May be due to the cold this morning, but remind your friends and family to go vote today before 7 PM.

Election day is tomorrow. The early voter turnout was great. There were 5,284 votes cast early in the Republican Primary in Johnson County. If you have not voted, please do so tomorrow and remind others. If you know someone that needs a ride to the polls, the Republican Women are making rides available. If you are not sure how to contact them, let me know and I will put them in contact with you.

Many of you probably received a flyer in the mail from our current County Judge listing all his accomplishments. On that flyer, he takes credit for the County-wide radio communication system. When you check the minutes of the Commissioner's Court on May 23, 2011, you will see that the Judge was the only one to vote against the County-wide communication system. Huh?

County judge race gets a little contentious

Great article about the debate Tuesday night from the Times Review. I did not have a chance to rebut this the other night when the Judge produced his "plan", but this is the kind of thing that should be posted on the county website for everyone to see. You should not have to make an Open Records request to be able to view it. This is the kind of transparency that I have been talking about with our county government.

Representative Rob Orr Announces Endorsement of Justin Hewlett for County Judge

CLEBURNE – February 12, 2014 – State Representative Rob Orr today announced his endorsement of Justin Hewlett of Cleburne for Johnson County Judge.
“As Johnson County moves into a new era, I believe Justin’s experience and business knowledge will provide the fresh, new leadership that Johnson County needs,” Rep. Orr said. “I have known and worked with Justin for several years and realize that we share the same strong conservative values.”
“In addition, Justin possesses the talent and skill set we need to lead Johnson County into the future. He has demonstrated that he can effectively lead through his business successes while also serving on the Cleburne ISD Board of Education and as Mayor.
“Justin’s degree in accounting and his background in banking and technology are important to Johnson County as we embrace the growth that is expected. And, I think he is the only candidate who can accomplish what really needs to be done—including getting all our county departments and our cities working together for the good of all our citizens,” Rep. Orr said.
“Justin knows the importance of hard work; and I know he will work hard for Johnson County. The fact that he owns several successful businesses is a tremendous advantage. It proves that he has the skills needed to do this job right. Justin has created numerous jobs in Johnson County and has demonstrated his ability to manage both employees and money on a long term and sustaining basis. That takes both short-term and long-term planning, plus lots of hard work and wise decisions. Justin knows this is a full time job, and is committed to it. I encourage everyone to join me in voting for Justin Hewlett as Johnson County Judge.”

I want to encourage everyone to come out to the last candidate forum on Tuesday, February 18. It will be in the Mabee Center on the Southwestern Adventist University Campus in Keene. This forum will only be for the Precinct #4 Commissioner's race and the County Judge Race. This forum will be in a debate format, so that the candidates will have more interaction than before. SWAU and the Star Group Newspapers are hosting the event and Ricky Stephens, the Keene ISD Superintendent will be the moderator. Please come out and see what the candidates have to say.

My son Dax tells me that there are currently 5 young men serving in the Army Special Forces who are all from Johnson County and I know of at least one active Navy Seal from Johnson County. There are not many counties in the USA that have produced this many active special forces soldiers. I always knew there is something special about this county.

So proud of my oldest son, Dax. What is really amazing is that both of these young men graduated from Cleburne High School in 2001 and now serve in the same group together. Johnson County schools really produce some great young people.

Looks like there is going to be one more candidate forum in Keene on February 18. I don't have all the details, but when I get them, I will let everyone know.

01/30/2014

Thought I would share some good news. At last night's candidate forum, they conducted a straw poll after the forum and I received 64 votes, Roger Harmon received 33 and Derek George received 6. It does not mean anything other than getting a feel for how the voting may go in March. It has inspired me to work harder to win this race. I hope you will encourage others to support me.

01/29/2014

Had a great time at the Candidate forum last night in Burleson. Thanks to Burleson Toastmasters, Johnson County Republican Party and Texas Patriots Tea Party for putting this on. There was about 180 people who braved the cold and came out to hear the candidates.

The following article was shared with me yesterday by a good friend. It is written by Peggy Noonan of the Wall Street Journal and says a lot about what is wrong with our political system today. We, the citizens need to hold those that represent us to higher standards.

I saved the best item for last. This is a pencil drawing by Howard Halbert (www.howardhalbert.com). The picture is called "Dally Up" and it will take your breath away. The drawing is already framed and is being donated by Howard Halbert and Gerald and Barbara Miller. The young man in the drawing is Trip Davis, who many of you may know. Howard will be telling about the drawing before the auction and if you would like to meet him, come out to our Meet & Greet Tuesday, January 21 in Burleson. Howard is a treasure of Johnson County. Hope to see you there.

When I said we had some unique items for our auction, I was not kidding. Craig Hundley has donated a historical document. It is a letter written by John Malcolm, who was born in 1769 and died in 1833. He was the British governor of Bombay. If you would like more information, you can look him up on Wikipedia. Thank you Craig Hundley

We are going to be auctioning off some very unique items at the Meet & Greet next Tuesday in Burleson. Here are pictures of two different pens that we have. These are hand made by Commissioner Jerry Stringer. One is Mesquite and one is walnut. They are beautiful. Make plans to be there.
