❤️ The Cleveland Heights Police Department is pleased to announce it raised over $2,000 for the Workshop of Wishes "No Shave WishVember" campaign!
.
Located in Northeast Ohio, Workshop of Wishes is an organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children between birth and 20 years of age who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
“No Shave WishVember” is a fun, philanthropic initiative that brings together local law enforcement departments and agencies to help grant wishes for children in our community. Officers and administrative staff raise funds by seeking support from the community, family, and friends (with the option to not shave as part of the fun) throughout November.
Over $6,000 was raised by participating police departments. All donations will go to eight-year-old Austin Criner, who is resilient and thriving after six open-heart surgeries.
Thank you, CHPD, for your generous support of Austin and the Workshop of Wishes' mission.

⚠️ Alert: High winds have caused a downed tree and power outages on the west end of the city due to a transformer/pole fire at Coventry and E. Overlook roads.
Roads are blocked off, and Police and Fire crews are on the scene.
Please avoid the area for now.
As a result of the power outage, several intersections are without functioning traffic lights, including major crossroads at Cedar and Lee, Euclid Heights Boulevard and Coventry, Euclid Heights Boulevard and Superior, and Washington Boulevard and Lee.
Please remember to treat intersections without power as four-way stops, where cars proceed in the order they arrive at the intersection.
A lake-effect snow warning is in place for Cuyahoga and surrounding counties from Thursday morning to Friday evening. Please be careful when driving in these conditions.
The Cleveland Heights Community Center serves as a warming station during power outages.

🧯Planning to fry your turkey this year for Thanksgiving? Keep these safety tips in mind:

1. FRY OUTDOORS ONLY - Keep at least 10 feet away from buildings, decks, and flammable materials. Never use inside or under a covered area.
2. DO NOT OVERFILL OIL - Determine correct oil amount before heating. Overfilling leads to dangerous spillover and potential fires.
3. COMPLETELY THAW TURKEY - Ensure turkey is completely thawed and dry. Frozen or wet turkeys cause severe oil spatter.
4. NEVER LEAVE UNATTENDED - Stay by the fryer at all times. Have a fire extinguisher ready for emergencies.

According to Fire Chief James Harry, the event went well and was highly regarded by those in attendance.

The weather is colder, and you want to get warmer!
🔥To safely use a space heater, follow the "three-foot rule" by keeping it away from flammable objects, plug it directly into a wall outlet, and always turn it off when you leave the room or go to sleep. Following these essential precautions can help prevent the risk of fire and ensure the heater operates safely.
👇*EXTENDED INSTRUCTIONS BELOW*
Maintain a 3-foot safety zone:
• Keep your space heater at least three feet away from all flammable items, including furniture, curtains, bedding, rugs, and papers. This rule is a key recommendation from organizations like the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
• Place on a flat, non-flammable surface: Position the heater on a stable, level surface, like a hard floor. Never place it on carpet, rugs, furniture, or countertops, as this can cause it to overheat or tip over.
• Keep pets and children away: Supervise children and pets when a space heater is on. Some models include a tip-over switch that automatically shuts off the unit if it is knocked over, which can provide an extra layer of safety.
2. Plug directly into a wall outlet - Space heaters draw a large amount of power and can easily overload a circuit.
• Never use an extension cord or power strip: Plugging a space heater into an extension cord or power strip can cause it to overheat and create a fire hazard.
• Use a dedicated outlet: Avoid plugging any other electrical devices into the same wall outlet as the heater.
• Inspect the cord: Regularly check the heater's power cord for any damage, such as fraying or cracking. If you find any issues, stop using it immediately.
3. Never leave unattended - The majority of space heater fires are caused by improper use, so constant vigilance is crucial.
• Turn it off when leaving the room: Always switch off and unplug the space heater when you leave a room, even for a short time.
• Never use while sleeping: Do not run a space heater overnight. Instead, use extra blankets to stay warm or choose a safer alternative like an electric blanket with an automatic timer.
• Unplug when not in use: When a space heater is not in use, unplug it and store it safely.
