The people of St. Joseph, KS, were originally predominantly Roman Catholics of French American heritage, migrating from Kankakee, Illinois.

Settled in 1873, a post office opened on July 29, 1878, but would only last until 1901.

Von Rothenberger asked about a St. Joseph High School after finding an article in the Clyde Herald dated September 25, 1889. We found two pictures from an old St. Joe book, and he sent the article he found.

First called Elk Creek in April 1864, the town was officially renamed Clyde in 1868, after the River Clyde in Scotland.

Clyde's population peaked at 1,157 in 1900. Today, fewer than 700 remain.

People were so happy to see Fr. Wolesky here and enjoyed visiting with him. Lots of new faces from all over as well as our faithful regulars!
