If liberal policies are so popular, why do some politicians avoid talking about them honestly during campaign season?

Here in North Idaho, people still believe in smaller government, protecting freedoms, watching spending, and preserving the values that made this place special in the first place. That’s why some candidates campaign as conservatives, then vote very differently once they get to Boise.

This race really comes down to one thing: integrity.

People are tired of polished mailers and scripted talking points. Voters deserve to know where candidates actually stand, and the best way to figure that out is to look at the record.

JANE Sauter has been upfront from the beginning about what she believes and how she’ll vote.

Mark’s record tells a different story. He has repeatedly voted with Democrats on key issues, and several conservative organizations have called him out for it. Our pinned vote sheet gives specific examples so voters can see it for themselves.

Don’t just listen to campaign season promises.

Look at the record.

Vote JANE Sauter on May 19.

We’re getting close, friends.

Only 4 days left for Early Voting, and just 8 days until the Primary Election.

So much is riding on this election for North Idaho. I think most of us can feel that. The direction of our communities, our values, and the future we leave our kids really does matter.

If you’ve been meaning to vote, now’s the time. Don’t wait until the last minute, and don’t assume others will carry the load. Every single vote counts in local elections like this.

JANE Sauter is the kind of conservative who will stand her ground, protect North Idaho values, and remember who she works for when she gets to Boise.

Please make a plan to vote early or vote on May 19th, and please support JANE Sauter for Idaho House District 1, Seat A.

Finally, let’s talk about Section 4 of Mark’s mailer regarding illegal immigration.

The mailer says Mark supports deporting criminal illegal immigrants, securing the southern border, and mandator(y) E-Verify for new employees.

But voters deserve the FULL picture.

Yes, Mark voted for E-Verify. But what he doesn’t mention is that he voted AGAINST H700, legislation that would have imposed criminal penalties on employers, labor representatives, and employment agents who knowingly hire or recruit individuals who are unlawfully present or unauthorized to work under federal law.

Because let’s be honest:
What good are laws without enforcement?

If there are no meaningful penalties, then E-Verify becomes little more than political window dressing.

And when you look at the amount of corporate and large agriculture donations to his campaign, that vote starts making a lot more sense.

Mark also voted AGAINST H659, legislation requiring local and county law enforcement agencies to apply for a 287(g) agreement with ICE.

These agreements help:
• Improve coordination with ICE
• Identify illegal immigrants already in custody
• Transfer criminal offenders to federal authorities faster
• Reduce repeat offenders being released back into communities
• Provide access to federal databases, training, and support

You can’t campaign on deporting criminal illegal immigrants while voting against tools that actually help law enforcement coordinate with ICE and enforce immigration law.

If that weren't enough, Mark voted against H660, which required state and local law enforcement agencies to verify and record the immigration status and nationality of arrested individuals.

Finally, Mark voted against H135, which prohibited illegal aliens from accessing taxpayer-funded assistance (note: this did not prohibit emergency health care).

Those votes directly contradict the tough-on-illegal-immigration image being pushed in his campaign mailers.

Jane isn’t afraid to support and enforce laws that put the safety, security, jobs, and financial well-being of American citizens first, not just recycle tough-sounding talking points for a campaign mailer.

Let's look at Section 3 of the Mailer: Cutting Taxes.

Mark wants to increase the Grocery Tax Credit. Jane wants to eliminate the Grocery Tax completely.

Groceries aren’t a luxury. They’re a necessity. Idaho families already pay taxes on the money they earn, then get taxed again at the checkout line just to feed their families. That doesn’t sit right with us.

The same goes for property taxes.

Mark supports raising the homeowner’s exemption to $225,000, but with property values exploding the way they have, that simply doesn’t go far enough for working families trying to stay in their homes.

Meanwhile, Idahoans are getting taxed from every direction: income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, fuel taxes, registration fees, business taxes, and more.

At some point, the government has to stop looking for ways to take more and start looking for ways to live within its means. Families have had to tighten their belts over the last several years. The government should be expected to do the same.

Jane believes in finding real ways to cut or eliminate taxes in a meaningful way, not just superficial fixes and partial relief that sound good in campaign season but don’t truly change the burden Idaho families are carrying.

Mark’s proposals simply do not go far enough to restrain government spending or provide meaningful relief to working Idahoans. In fact, it has been said that Mark has never met a spending bill he didn't like (or vote for).

Is he really taking credit for the Big Beautiful Bill?

Mark Sauter appears to be taking credit for “No Tax on Tips” and “No Tax on Overtime” as though these were bold Idaho-led reforms he championed.

There were NO standalone Idaho bills eliminating taxes on tips or overtime.

Those provisions were folded into HB559, a broad tax conformity bill that aligned Idaho’s tax code with portions of the federal “Big Beautiful Bill.”

In other words, Idaho lawmakers voted to conform to federal tax changes already passed at the national level. That is very different from independently crafting and passing Idaho-specific tax relief legislation.

Let's look at the facts behind Mark's recent mailer. We'll start with his segment on Protecting Our Families:

Protect Privacy in Bathrooms: If you remember, the transgender woman (biological male) in the Sandpoint YMCA was allowed to be in the Women's bathroom due to the City of Sandpoint's anti-discrimination ordinance, which included protections based on, among other things, gender identity. This was the basis for further legislation introduced in the legislature to protect women. Specifically, HB557 would have prohibited Idaho cities and counties from adopting local anti-discrimination ordinances that included protections for sexual orientation or gender identity beyond what exists in Idaho state law. Mark voted against this legislation, which was directly correlated to the YMCA incident.

Expand School Choice: Mark Sauter’s vote against HB93, Idaho’s 2025 school choice / parental choice tax credit bill that provided funding support for private school and homeschool expenses. He repeatedly argued that Idaho should prioritize funding public schools before expanding funding mechanisms for private schools or homeschooling. During a debate around HB93, Sauter expressed concerns about accountability and oversight of homeschool/private education funding and whether funds would be “spent appropriately.” Apparently, he doesn't trust you. Mark also voted against HJR001 in 2025, which proposed a constitutional amendment related to parental rights and education choice.

Up next, Section 2 of his mailer.
