The Prairie Trail will be closed going north from the Centennial Trail/Prairie Trail junction to Golf Course Road, starting February 12th and going through the end of the month. A detour route will guide trail users down NW Blvd and back to the trail, south of the interstate. For the safety of the work crews and yourselves, please don't cut through the construction area, as there will be open trenches and heavy equipment operating in the area.
Thank you.

Last Friday for our last Trail Day of the year we had an absolutely an amazing 24 Tubbs Hill volunteers assisting Cd’A Trails Coordinator Monte McCully and staff to complete the following major projects:
Dismantling and reconstruction of the fixed wood bridge on the Main Loop Trail on the east side of Tubbs Hill;
Jackhammering protruding rocks on the trail leading from the East Tubbs Hill Trailhead to the fixed bridge, and transport and compaction of gravel and mineral soil to address some accessibility standards and drainage issues.

Both of these projects kept everyone very focused and working well together. Several volunteers stated that the amount of work completed was unbelievable. And best of all, they said they had fun and looked forward to the next Trail Day.

Huge thanks from The Friends of Tubbs Hill and Cd’A Trails Coordinator Monte McCully to:
Paula Dahlen, Bill Delyea, Mary Duff, Jim Fields, Rich Gerhard, Barb Hallett, Ryan Hayes, Andrew Hobbs, Jon Ingalls, George Ives, Emily Jedberger, Ben Jensen, Dan Keating, Lars, Ben Levy, Jan Moseley, Tere Porcarelli, Thayer Sabartke, Mike Schwegel, Chris Texeira, Matt Zinn, and Aiden Waters for 90 hours of volunteer work. This list includes NIC Outdoor Recreation Program students.

Also thanks to Paula D. for the yummy homemade chocolate chip cookies!

Here is the official press release for the Tubbs Hill and Cancourse prescription burn.

PUBLIC NOTICE:
Tubbs Hill Prescription Burn and Canfield/Cancourse Prescription Burn

Tubbs Hill

The City of Coeur d’Alene Parks Department and the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department are coordinating a prescribed burn of piles of cut vegetation with Kootenai County and the Idaho Department of Lands on Tubbs Hill. The prescribed burn is tentatively scheduled for the first half of November, but exact dates will depend on favorable weather conditions. If necessary, the burn may be delayed until later in November or December.

This summer, tree crews pruned vegetation and felled some dead trees. The cut vegetation was piled at various locations around Tubbs Hill in preparation for burning when weather conditions were deemed favorable. November is the best time for burning for purposes of control.

Tubbs Hill will be closed to the public during the prescribed burn. A minimum of two days of no access is expected. The City will post another notice when the burn is scheduled, but it will be on short notice.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we are taking steps to create a safer and healthier Tubbs Hill.

Canfield/Cancourse

Around the same time as the prescribed burn on Tubbs Hill, crews will also be burning prescribed burn piles in two, much smaller units in the city. The first is a 2.8-acre unit in the southeast corner of the Cancourse Nature Park, and the second is a nearly one-acre unit on a private parcel adjacent to the fire reduction work that was done last year in the Canfield Natural Area and Cancourse. Notices will be posted at park entrances.

The City of Coeur d’Alene Urban Forestry Division is your ally in caring for public trees and all trees properly. Please contact the City of Coeur d’Alene Urban Forestry Division with any questions regarding public trees, natural areas, and questions regarding Urban Forestry ordinances. Also, feel free to contact the Urban Forestry office with any questions regarding tree selection and tree care.

This project is funded in part by the Idaho Department of Lands in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service.
This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

PUBLIC NOTICE
The City of Coeur d’Alene Parks Department and the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department are coordinating a prescribed burn with Kootenai County and the Idaho Department of Lands on Tubbs Hill to burn piles of cut vegetation. This prescribed burn will take place sometime during the first half of November. It is not possible to give exact dates due to the weather conditions that will be necessary to proceed with the burning. Although the burn will likely occur in the first half of November, if we do not get the desired conditions, it could be later in November or maybe even December.

This summer, tree crews pruned vegetation and fell some hazardous dead trees. The cut vegetation was then piled at various locations around the hill in preparation for burning when weather conditions are favorable. November is the best time for burning, so the burn is controllable.

Tubbs Hill will be closed to the public during the prescribed burn. A minimum of two days of no access to Tubbs Hill is expected. We will post another notice when the burn is scheduled, but it will be on short notice.

Should you see smoke during the announced burn period, which may be as early as the first weeks of November, please refrain from contacting the Fire or Police department to report it, unless you are sure it is not related to the prescribed pile burning..

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we take steps to create a safer and healthier Tubbs Hill.

CENTENNIAL TRAIL CLOSURE: The Centennial Trail and Seltice Trail will be rerouted from 9/22/25 to 10/24/25 for the installation of a new water main, ahead of the ITD widening project. Trail traffic will be rerouted down the Atlas Trail to the riverfront to connect back to the Centennial Trail. When the work is done, the trail will not be repaved right away. It will remain compacted gravel until the ITD reconstruction of the Prairie Trail Overpass is done next year. Please do not walk or ride through the work zone.
