Interesting Fact - A birdie is a term used for a shot that is 1 under par. An Eagle is 2 under par, and although very rare, an albatross or double eagle is 3 under par. Certainly not par-for-the-course is the nearly impossible 4 under par or condor! A condor has only been recorded four times.

So how did "condor" become a part of golf lingo? It's believed that the only explanation is a continuation of the 'bird' theme for under-par scores with the size of the bird getting bigger as the score gets lower, hence "birdie," "eagle," "albatross," "condor."
